About the role

This role is dedicated to ensuring the regulatory and material compliance of Starlink hardware, including dishes, routers, and power supplies, for distribution across consumer and enterprise electronics markets globally. You will own the strategic management of environmental standards that govern the materials used in these products. The position requires a deep understanding of material composition and regulatory obligations to meet international market access requirements. You will serve as the primary technical authority for compliance matters related to materials and substances. This includes maintaining rigorous documentation that supports product launches and market entry. The role demands close collaboration with engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams to integrate compliance into the product lifecycle. You will be responsible for mitigating regulatory risk before products scale to global distribution. Success in this position ensures that Starlink hardware can be sold and operated in compliance with the world's most stringent environmental laws.

What you'll do

• Direct the material compliance strategy for all Starlink hardware, establishing processes for Full Material Declarations and in-depth BOM analysis to ensure complete regulatory traceability.
• Oversee global programs for RoHS, REACH, WEEE, and Prop 65, managing the end to end compliance workflows from gap analysis to audit readiness.
• Maintain material data systems and manage the validation of supplier data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of compliance records.
• Evaluate risks for new materials and components early in the design cycle, providing clear technical guidance to design and sourcing departments to prevent non-compliance.
• Create and manage technical documentation for global environmental regulatory filings, translating complex requirements into actionable specifications for the business.
• Monitor emerging environmental regulations across all operating regions and implement necessary changes to hardware requirements and supplier specifications proactively.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives to align manufacturing processes with compliance standards, working closely with operations to ensure adherence during production.
• Partner with supply chain teams to qualify new vendors and components, ensuring all materials meet the regulatory thresholds before integration into Starlink products.
• Drive continuous improvement in compliance methodologies, leveraging data and insights to optimize material management and reporting efficiency.
• Act as the internal and external subject matter expert, responding to inquiries from regulatory bodies, customers, and internal stakeholders regarding material compliance.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor degree in chemical engineering, material engineering, materials science, environmental science, chemistry, or a related STEM field that provides a foundational understanding of material behaviors and regulatory science.
• Possess a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in materials and environmental compliance within high-volume consumer electronics, IT equipment, or industrial hardware, demonstrating a proven track record in complex regulatory environments.
• Demonstrate the ability to work weekends or extended hours when mission critical deadlines arise, ensuring that compliance milestones are met without delaying product launches.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements, ensuring that sensitive technical and compliance data is handled in accordance with national security regulations.
• Have a strong understanding of the regulatory frameworks governing electronics materials, including the ability to interpret and apply standards that impact global trade.
• Show a commitment to accuracy and detail, with the capability to manage multiple compliance streams simultaneously without sacrificing quality or deadlines.
• Exhibit strong problem-solving skills when addressing material discrepancies or non-conformances identified during audits or testing.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal formats, producing documentation that is clear, precise, and suitable for regulatory review and executive leadership.

Nice to have

• Bring 10+ years of direct experience in materials and environmental compliance for high-volume electronics, specifically within automotive, IT, or consumer sectors, providing a broader perspective on regulatory challenges.
• Show extensive knowledge of RoHS, REACH, WEEE, and Full Material Declaration workflows, including the specific nuances of substance restrictions and reporting obligations.
• Have practical experience with large-scale supplier data collection and material data management systems, streamlining the process of gathering and validating critical compliance information.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations in the US, EU, UK, and China, navigating the differences between regional legal requirements with ease.
• Provide a proven ability to perform compliance risk assessments on complex Bills of Materials, identifying potential issues before they escalate.
• Show strong technical writing capabilities, producing high-quality reports, technical files, and regulatory submissions that meet the highest standards of clarity and precision.
• Have experience influencing cross-functional teams including NPI, manufacturing, and design without direct authority, fostering collaboration to achieve shared compliance objectives.
