About the role
SpaceX is seeking a talented electrical engineer to enhance the propellant generation systems essential for the Starship launch operations. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and providing field support for infrastructure that generates liquid oxygen and methane in substantial quantities. Your work will encompass air separation units, liquefaction systems, and gas turbine power plants, necessitating collaboration with engineers from various disciplines to ensure the successful implementation of orbital launch capabilities.

What you'll do
- Take charge of the electrical design for air separation facilities, liquefaction systems, and gas turbine power generation plants.
- Collect and analyze electrical requirements from both internal teams and external partners to ensure project alignment.
- Create detailed drawings, design documentation, and comprehensive project reports tailored for aerospace and industrial applications.
- Draft, negotiate, and oversee construction contracts with subcontractors, managing the entire process through to project completion.
- Address and resolve design and construction conflicts that arise on-site, ensuring smooth project execution.
- Collaborate with local utility providers to engineer and design reliable power solutions for critical infrastructure.
- Provide guidance to electricians and technicians during the construction and commissioning phases of power distribution equipment.
- Interface effectively with engineers, contractors, fabricators, and other stakeholders involved in the project to maintain clear communication and coordination.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in designing or constructing electrical systems for building infrastructure is essential.
- Must be able to pass an Air Force background check to gain access to Cape Canaveral.
- Willingness to engage in hands-on work across diverse conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, confined spaces, and heights.
- Availability for extended hours, including weekends, as project demands arise.
- Ability to maintain focus in hazardous environments while adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
- Capability to lift up to 30 pounds without assistance is necessary.
Nice to have
- Practical experience with electrical and power distribution systems operating under 600 Vac.
- Familiarity with the design and construction of medium voltage systems is advantageous.
- Understanding of switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), transformers, building lighting, construction specifications, and facility grounding.
- Experience with critical power infrastructure, including uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches.
- Proven history of implementing process or design enhancements with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
- Ability to conduct Arc Flash, Coordination, and Power Studies is a plus.
- Experience in designing and constructing systems within classified environments is beneficial.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities and a knack for assisting technicians with repairs are desirable.
- Comfort in high-pressure situations with tight deadlines is important.
- Attention to detail and an understanding of system interactions are crucial.
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, and IBC standards is preferred.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in electrical system design for both industrial and aerospace facilities.
- Experienced in power distribution systems under 600 Vac and medium voltage systems.
- Knowledgeable in switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), transformers, and grounding techniques.
- Skilled in conducting Arc Flash and coordination studies.
- Experienced in managing construction contracts effectively.
- Capable of providing field troubleshooting and activation support.
