About the role
As a member of the Starlink hardware engineering team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability of satellite electronics in the challenging environment of space. This position requires collaboration across various disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and software engineering, to validate hardware throughout its lifecycle - from production and integration to on-orbit operations.

What you'll do
- Design and implement automated testing solutions for both payload and avionics hardware to ensure optimal performance.
- Choose between commercially available components or create custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to accurately measure signals and simulate flight-like conditions.
- Develop Python-based automation scripts to facilitate communication with testing equipment, instrumentation, and production data systems.
- Provide direct, hands-on assistance with hardware during the satellite integration and flight phases, ensuring all systems function as intended.
- Conduct electrical bench testing and develop engineering models to identify, replicate, and address any anomalies that arise.
- Work closely with teams focused on mechanical, thermal, silicon, and supply chain aspects to deliver cohesive and integrated hardware solutions.
- Analyze data collected from laboratory tests and on-orbit performance to inform and enhance design improvements for future iterations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions that enhance the reliability of satellite systems.
- Document testing procedures, results, and findings to maintain a comprehensive record of hardware performance and reliability.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing methodologies and processes.
- Engage in proactive problem-solving to anticipate potential issues before they arise during the satellite lifecycle.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in technology to ensure the team remains at the forefront of satellite engineering.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related STEM discipline is required.
- At least one year of experience in electronics testing or hardware development, which may include internships.
- Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as needed to meet critical mission deadlines.
- Candidates must comply with ITAR regulations, meaning they should be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and other stakeholders.
Nice to have
- A master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, or C++ is advantageous.
- Experience in designing and troubleshooting PCBAs is a plus.
- Familiarity with circuit analysis and the ability to create functional test plans would be beneficial.
- Hands-on experience with various test instruments, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, vector signal generators, and source measurement units.
- Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes, electrical schematics, and reliability failure mechanisms is desirable.
- Experience with environmental testing methods, such as thermal vacuum (TVAC), thermal cycling, vibration testing, Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) is a plus.
- Understanding of metrology, measurement error, and uncertainty analysis would be advantageous.

Practical notes
- Salary ranges from $105,000 to $120,000 for Level I and $115,000 to $145,000 for Level II positions.
- Compensation packages may include stock options, long-term cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and participation in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
