About the role
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of Starlink ground station antennas. Your expertise will be crucial in testing and validating hardware that operates under challenging conditions across a global network. What you'll do
- Develop and implement comprehensive environmental, RF, mechanical, and electrical testing protocols specifically for ground antenna payloads.
- Investigate hardware failures to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Select appropriate off-the-shelf components or design custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to power and monitor the units undergoing testing.
- Provide essential support for hardware during various phases, including qualification, production, and deployment within the network.
- Collaborate closely with teams specializing in mechanical, thermal, software, and silicon engineering to ensure seamless integration of hardware components.
- Conduct bench tests to replicate issues and validate strategies for mitigating those problems.
- Create both digital and physical tools to analyze data from the field and laboratory, aiming to enhance the quality of designs.
- Document testing procedures and results meticulously to maintain a clear record of findings and improvements.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to refine testing processes and enhance reliability standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on best practices in reliability engineering and testing methodologies.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss project progress and align on objectives.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure the team remains at the forefront of innovation.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a closely related STEM discipline is required.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in areas such as reliability engineering, failure analysis, or hardware development.
- Proven track record in conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
Nice to have
- A master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related STEM field is preferred.
- Experience in integrated electronics and mechanical design, with a solid understanding of RF fundamentals.
- Familiarity with PCBA circuit analysis and the development of functional test plans.
- Proficiency in using various test instruments, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, vector signal generators, and source measurement units.
- Knowledge of environmental testing methods such as shock, vibration, thermal, humidity, and Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS).
- Programming experience in languages such as Python, C, or C++.
- Understanding of electronics manufacturing processes, reliability principles, and common failure modes.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean methodologies, particularly in the context of root cause analysis.
- Basic knowledge of metrology, uncertainty analysis, and measurement error principles.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in programming languages: Python, C, C++
- Experienced with testing equipment: Oscilloscope, Multimeter, Electronic Load, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Vector Signal Generator, Source Measurement Unit
- Knowledgeable in testing methodologies: HALT/HASS, Thermal, Humidity, Shock, Vibration testing
- Familiar with continuous improvement frameworks: Lean, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis
Practical notes
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees to comply with ITAR regulations.
- Flexibility to work weekends or extended hours may be necessary to meet critical project deadlines.
- Occasional travel to ground network locations will be required for investigations and assessments.
