About the role

The Starlink production team in Bastrop, Texas, builds the satellites that power a global internet network, and this role keeps the facility itself running. As an Electrical Engineer for Facilities you will manage the electrical infrastructure of the site, overseeing power distribution systems to keep the manufacturing floor, test stands, and support buildings safe and online. You will guide improvement projects from the first study through implementation, keep operations informed before any downtime, and act as the technical authority for everything electrical at that location. Because Starlink is produced at scale on a site that keeps growing, its electrical plants must mature just as fast, which makes this a blend of power systems engineering and real, hands-on operations. You will see designs you created actually installed, exercised under production load, and maintained. The role touches substations, switchgear, distribution, and the equipment that modern manufacturing depends on, and treats them as production assets rather than afterthoughts. Because the site never fully stops, you will learn to sequence work around operations: planning outages, coordinating with contractors, and keeping the factory powered while its infrastructure is upgraded.

What you'll do

• Design, operate, troubleshoot, and improve facility electrical systems, including substations, switchgear, and the wider power distribution plant.
• Manage facility electrical improvement projects through design, budget, and schedule.
• Perform load flow studies, arc flash studies, and breaker coordination analysis.
• Coordinate with maintenance and construction crews to plan downtime windows and minimize production impact.
• Oversee electrical equipment installation projects from procurement and construction contracts through close-out.
• Give direct technical guidance to facility technicians on repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Track site electrical margin and report risk clearly to leadership.
• Communicate across disciplines so every construction and operation team shares the same power picture.
• Write and own the technical standards the site follows, so electrical work is repeatable, safe, and measurable.
• Own the electrical commissioning checklist for new installations and sign off on their readiness for operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of professional experience in industrial or commercial power systems.
• ITAR eligibility: must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
• Valid driver license for site travel.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and at heights as operations require.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of experience designing, building, or operating industrial power systems.
• Direct experience with power distribution under 600 Vac and its key components, including delta/wye transformers, motor control centers, and grounding.
• Experience with critical power infrastructure such as UPS systems and generators.
• Working skills in AutoCAD, Revit, or electrical modeling.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and building code requirements.
• Experience running construction projects to a committed schedule and budget.
• Experience working at heights, in confined spaces, and around medium-voltage equipment with qualified PPE protocols.
