About the role
This position supports the Starship launch team by designing and building fluid systems for launch, landing, and test sites. You will focus on the creation and processing of cryogenic propellants to support the operation of the most powerful rocket in existence. In this role, you are responsible for the end-to-end execution of complex fluid systems that directly enable vehicle testing and mission success. You will translate high-level engineering requirements into detailed designs for cryogenic production and distribution infrastructure. Your work will ensure that propellant supply chains are reliable, safe, and scalable for rapid iteration. You will act as a technical leader in the development of methane and oxygen systems critical to Starship operations. This position requires a hands-on engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.

What you'll do
- Engineer, construct, and run systems essential for rocket testing and launches.
- Execute thermofluid analysis for liquid and gaseous fluid systems, including cryogenic liquids.
- Oversee the installation and fabrication of fluid infrastructure at test and launch facilities.
- Develop advanced technologies for producing methane and oxygen rocket propellants.
- Commission and build equipment for air separation, liquified natural gas production, and liquefaction.
- Calculate balance of plant requirements for cryogenic systems.
- Direct interdisciplinary projects from initial concept through activation.
- Coordinate with operations staff to ensure designs are functional and easy to maintain.
- Specify and integrate control systems that regulate cryogenic fluid flow and storage conditions.
- Validate system performance through testing, data analysis, and iterative design improvements.
- Support the qualification of components and materials for extreme cryogenic temperatures.
- Implement process improvements that enhance safety, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Document designs, procedures, and test results to support audits and regulatory compliance.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams to align fluid system requirements with mission objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in aerospace, chemical, or mechanical engineering.
- Minimum 1 year of professional hands-on experience with fluid systems, including internships.
- Must meet ITAR requirements: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by the position.
- Willingness to adhere to SpaceX policies, procedures, and technical standards.
- Physical capability to perform essential job functions, including lifting and moving equipment.
- Willingness to work in a government-contracted environment with strict compliance requirements.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, deadline-driven setting.

- Background in plant operations or commissioning for air separation or liquified natural gas.
- Ability to lead teams of engineers.
Practical notes
- Travel requirement is up to 15% to support launch and build activities.
- Role requires flexibility to work weekends and extended hours.
- Physical requirements include standing up to 6 hours, walking up to 10 hours, and working in temperatures over 80 degrees.
- Must be capable of working at heights up to 500 feet, in confined spaces, and operating heavy machinery.
- Exposure to noise, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions is expected.
