About the role
This position is centered on the Starshield program, which leverages Starlink architecture to enable national security missions spanning communications, earth observation, and hosted payloads. The hire will serve as the principal architect of test frameworks, owning the entire lifecycle of validation for satellite electronic hardware from concept to flight. You will act as the final authority on the reliability and safety of flight components, ensuring every measurement and procedure meets stringent aerospace standards. This role requires deep collaboration across disciplines to translate system requirements into executable test strategies. You will build and manage complex testing systems that verify the integrity of RF, optical, and electro-mechanical assemblies. The position demands rigorous documentation and analysis to support high-stakes qualification and acceptance testing. You will drive continuous improvement by refining test processes to increase confidence in hardware performance. Success in this role means guaranteeing that every component launched into orbit functions flawlessly under the most demanding conditions.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and maintain comprehensive test setups for flight hardware, covering RF antennas, optics, electro-mechanical systems, and internal electronics.
- Source and integrate commercial off-the-shelf components or engineer bespoke PCBA solutions to deliver robust power and load-testing platforms.
- Engineer automated software solutions using Python to control test instrumentation and interface with enterprise production systems.
- Partner with design and manufacturing groups to refine production infrastructure and drive measurable improvements in yield and efficiency.
- Lead failure analysis investigations, isolating root causes and implementing corrective actions to safeguard hardware integrity.
- Define and execute validation protocols that prove compliance with stringent aerospace and mission-specific requirements.
- Develop and maintain detailed test procedures and reports that provide clear traceability from requirements to verification evidence.
- Calibrate and characterize test equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and data reliability across all test campaigns.
- Support the development of standards and best practices that govern testing methodologies across the Starshield organization.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians on test techniques, documentation standards, and problem-solving methodologies.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field with a pronounced focus on electronics.
- Possess a minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in electronic hardware or software development, including relevant internships or academic projects.
- Demonstrate a minimum of 1 year of programming proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or Embedded C/C++.
- Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to satisfy ITAR compliance obligations.
- Exhibit strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex test data and translate findings into actionable engineering decisions.
- Show a disciplined approach to safety and quality, adhering to procedures without compromise or exception.
- Display effective communication skills to articulate technical concepts to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.

- Hands-on experience with PCBA design, assembly, and troubleshooting.
- The capability to analyze electrical schematics and devise comprehensive functional test plans.
- Expertise with a wide range of test equipment, including oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and signal generators.
- Familiarity with metrology, measurement uncertainty analysis, and environmental testing protocols such as TVAC, EMI/EMC, vibration, shock, HALT, and HASS.
- Competence in object-oriented programming paradigms and design patterns.
- Possession of an active Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI clearance.

Compensation: Level I ($105,000 - $122,500) or Level II ($120,000 - $150,000) based on experience and skills.
- Active security clearances qualify for a 10% differential, potentially increasing compensation by up to $20,000 annually once assigned to classified programs.

- The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve significant time at the primary work site in Hawthorne, Canada.
- Travel may be required to support other SpaceX or Starshield facilities as dictated by operational needs.
