About the role
The MDU Growth Specialist is a field-based sales position focused on expanding high-speed fiber internet adoption across multi-dwelling unit (MDU) communities such as apartments and condominiums within Sonic's service footprint. The role owns the end-to-end sales process, from initial prospecting and relationship building with tenants and property managers to execution of full building installs. The specialist is responsible for driving the MDU take rate to targeted levels by converting qualified prospects into active fiber customers. Success in this role requires disciplined execution of Sonic's sales procedures, consistent field presence, and data-informed community engagement to identify growth hotspots and maximize revenue per building. This position directly contributes to the expansion of fiber adoption in urban and suburban multifamily markets while ensuring a smooth installation journey for residents and property stakeholders.
What you'll do
- Coordinate with property managers to schedule and execute full building install events that align with acquisition targets.
- Visit construction and retrofit sites to support standard single-unit installations and ensure timely completion.
- Utilize Salesforce Maps to design efficient daily routes that maximize doors knocked and minimize travel time.
- Leave behind marketing collateral and follow up via online community groups to sustain top-of-mind awareness.
- Check the dispatch calendar each day to identify priority single-unit and multi-unit installation opportunities.
- Record and update every opportunity in Directly and Salesforce to maintain accurate pipeline visibility.
- Complete at least 200 knocked doors each day while generating a minimum of three new fiber orders.
- Implement insights from the FBI excel sheet to prioritize buildings with the lowest take rate and drive improvements.
- Provide daily written reports to the Sales Manager detailing activities, results, and blockers.
- Maintain compliance with Sonic sales policies while adapting strategies to meet monthly performance expectations.
Requirements
- Must hold a valid California Driver's License with a clean DMV record.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require future work authorization sponsorship.
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to East Bay, CA within a reasonable timeframe.
- Must commit to full-time hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by field operations.
- Must reliably perform duties that involve frequent sitting, standing, walking, and hand use.
- Must be capable of lifting and moving up to 25 pounds during installation visits.
- Must possess close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Must demonstrate the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Competency
To perform this job successfully, individuals should be familiar with or able to learn Sonic's fiber installation process, basic internal tools, and Customer Relationship Management software such as Salesforce. Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to multitask and balance competing priorities are essential. Solid teamwork skills and a disciplined approach to updating and following up on opportunities on a daily basis are required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The work environment is fast-paced and requires simultaneous handling of multiple tasks in a field setting. Noise levels are typically moderate. The role involves constant sitting and keying, along with occasional standing, walking, handling objects and tools, reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Talking and hearing are regular parts of the role. Employees must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
