About the role
This position is responsible for ensuring timely and quality fiber service deliveries while guiding contracted splicing teams toward Sonic standards. The role provides exceptional internal and external customer service with no supervisory responsibilities attached to the position. It requires the incumbent to perform occasional evening and weekend work along with typical travel requirements as dictated by operational needs. You will own the quality and accuracy of fiber optic splicing inspections in the field environment. The position demands a high level of personal accountability for meeting Sonic standards on every assignment. You will act as the primary quality checkpoint for all splicing activities performed in the field. Success in this role is defined by the reliability and precision of your inspections.
Key facts
What you'll do
Inspect splicing work to confirm it meets Sonic standards with meticulous attention to detail.
Verify that splices are performed alongside engineers and OSP management as directed for compliance.
Complete repairs on fiber cable and provide detailed reports of field splicing activity to management on a timely basis.
Verify As-built fiber documentation and conduct site inspections while coordinating post-construction audits.
Operate fiber equipment, hand tools, fusion splicers, OTDRs, fiber identifiers, and scopes proficiently to validate work.
Ensure adherence to local, Federal regulations and Company policies, along with Sonic's fiber splicing and testing standards, light levels, and Fiber Enclosure build and re-entry procedures for dark and active plant.
Lift, climb, and operate an extension ladder approximately 28 ft high and handle equipment weighing up to 75 pounds safely.
Climb poles using ladders and climbing belts as needed to access splicing points and inspection areas.
Drive company vehicles such as bucket trucks safely and operate hydraulic aerial lifts with certification and care.
Perform job duties from heights on poles and roofs while maintaining strict safety protocols at all times.
Utilize experience with fiber optic network documentation and strong analytical skills to translate data into actionable field strategies.
Think creatively and strategically while communicating effectively with a cooperative attitude toward co-workers, customers, and contractors in the field.
Maintain a strong work ethic that supports high productivity with minimal direct supervision in demanding environments.
