Materials Program Manager

About the role

You will own the end to end materials planning and execution for Skydio's drone and dock products. You will translate forecast demand into a dynamic and resilient material strategy that balances cost, service, and risk across the entire product lifecycle. You will drive the Clear-to-Build process to ensure the right materials are available at the right place and time for both in house FATP operations and contract manufacturers. You will partner closely with engineering and design to manage Engineering Change Orders and product transitions while minimizing material obsolescence. You will act as the central hub for supply chain communication, escalating risks early and coordinating cross functional solutions. Your work will directly influence on time customer shipments and the valuation of the company. You will also champion continuous improvement by simplifying processes and leveraging data to optimize material flows.

What you'll do

Plan all BOM materials to ensure the right availability of the right product at the right place and time through the product lifecycle at both in house FATP and the contract manufacturers.

Own all Tier 2 materials management at the Contract Manufacturing (CM) sites to build and ship critical modules and sub-assemblies.

Manage the Clear-to-Build report to drive material readiness and align production plans with customer orders.

Develop material strategy to ensure the optimal level of inventory that balances supply flexibility against cost exposure.

Proactively identify supply chain risks and define mitigation steps to build long term health into the supply chain.

Actively communicate supply chain risks across all stakeholders and XFN teams to heighten risk awareness and drive solutions.

Escalate material issues in a timely manner to unblock production and protect delivery commitments.

Use the CTB process to drive Engineering Change Orders, product transitions, and material revision changes to ensure supply continuity and minimize obsolescence of old material.

Collaborate with the purchasing team to drive supply commits, close shortages, and define supplier strategies with the Supply Chain team.

Work fluidly in a highly cross functional team environment involving manufacturing, program management, product development teams, design engineers, supply chain, production control and logistics teams.

Engage with system developers to build and improve internal systems and tools that enhance material visibility and control.

Champion process improvement initiatives that increase efficiency in internal and external workflows.

Apply rigorous data analysis to solve complex material planning and availability problems.

Support the design for supply principles that enable scalable and cost effective production.

Requirements

You must hold a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Operations to be considered for this role.

You bring 4 to 6 years of related experience in OEM, JDM, or ODM hardware business models and prior experience with contract manufacturing.

You possess strong analytical and data based problem solving skills and must be able to handle massive amounts of data then connect the dots.

You can manage multiple deadlines simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

You demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can present material status clearly in weekly program and executive meetings.

You are a collaborative team player who thrives in cross functional settings and builds trust with partners across the organization.

You have knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and ERP systems, which is a strong advantage in this role.

You must be physically present on site in Hayward, California, with a mandatory requirement of 3 days on site per week.

Obtaining FAA Part 107 certification within the first 60 days of employment is strongly encouraged for all Skydio employees and is required for certain positions.

Nice to have

Knowledge of drone systems, payloads, and the specific regulatory environment for unmanned aircraft is a strong advantage.

Experience with advanced scheduling and capacity planning techniques in a manufacturing environment.

Understanding of cost of goods sold (COGS) drivers and how material choices impact gross margin.

Familiarity with quality management systems and compliance requirements for aerospace and defense applications.

Experience with statistical process control or design of experiments (DOE) methods.

Practical notes

This role is based in Hayward, California, and requires on site presence for three days each week.

FAA Part 107 certification is strongly encouraged for all employees and required for certain positions.
