Staff Global Supply Manager, Mechanicals
Job description
About the role
You own end-to-end sourcing for drone production components. Your work ensures mechanical assemblies, optics, and electronics reach global deployment with reliability and cost discipline.
Software engineers turn product ideas into working code. Engineers work in small teams, review each other's work, and ship in small batches. Most teams follow agile practices such as sprints and daily standups. Engineers also write tests, fix bugs, and improve performance. The field values clear communication as much as technical skill. Engineers spend part of every week on planning, code review, and debugging, not just writing new code. The ability to explain a technical decision in plain words separates strong engineers from the rest.
Key facts
What you'll do
Commodity roadmaps are developed and maintained to align current and future program needs.
Global high-potential suppliers are identified to expand the available pool of qualified partners. Requests for information, proposals, and quotes are managed so that all commercial terms are documented and formally agreed.
Commodity pricing is analyzed against current spend and supplier performance to ensure competitive positioning. Current spend is evaluated and consumption forecasts are maintained, while purchasing trends are uncovered through spend consolidation across the supply base. Sourcing alternatives are developed in response to market conditions, technology roadmaps, and supply or demand challenges.
Finance and accounting coordinate on monthly close and financial planning cycles, aligning supply metrics with corporate objectives.
Product quality, performance, and durability are upheld through defined metrics that are managed and reviewed by the team.
Requirements
The posting states a bachelor's degree requirement. A degree is required for this position.
Manufacturing, supply chain, and purchasing processes and practices are understood and applied with healthy engagement.
Complex negotiations, RFP issues, cost and price analysis, and purchasing procedures are directed with strength and precision.
Cost models guide should-cost definitions, enabling rigorous price negotiation and sourcing cost reduction over time.
Goals are achieved in a fast-paced start-up environment where flexibility adapts to changing circumstances and shifting priorities.
Strategy is communicated clearly across management levels and multiple regional locations to ensure alignment and execution.
Quantitative and qualitative comparisons of sourcing alternatives are prepared and presented to support data-driven decision making.
Supplier relationships and performance are managed throughout the lifecycle, including dispute resolution and ongoing evaluation against commitments.
Emerging technologies in consumer electronics, aerospace, and robotics are tracked as a matter of professional interest to anticipate market shifts.
Detail orientation, teamwork, and enthusiasm for learning new concepts define everyday behavior and collaboration.
Written and verbal communication remains clear, with strong ethics and professionalism maintained in all interactions.
A technical degree or equivalent work experience is required to perform the responsibilities of this role.

Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Drones rely on sensors, control systems, and autonomous flight software to operate effectively. Supply managers in hardware companies interface with finance, engineering, and logistics to balance priorities. Pricing analysis and supplier negotiation directly shape product cost and availability in competitive markets.
