About the role
Skillfield is currently looking for a skilled Citrix Engineer to become part of their team in Melbourne, Victoria on a fixed-term contract basis. This role centers on the administration, support, and ongoing maintenance of Citrix virtualization infrastructure that powers virtual desktops and published applications for internal users. The successful candidate will ensure that all Citrix services remain stable, performant, and aligned with the organization's operational standards. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to plan, deploy, and optimize virtual delivery solutions across the enterprise environment. The engineer will also be responsible for contributing to capacity planning and future infrastructure roadmap discussions within the IT department.

What you'll do
Design and implement Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops solutions to meet the needs of end users throughout the organization.
Configure and manage core Citrix components including StoreFront, Delivery Controller, Citrix Gateway, and related infrastructure services.
Monitor system health and performance metrics, proactively identifying and resolving issues within the virtual desktop environment.
Coordinate with network and security teams to ensure proper connectivity, firewall rules, and access control policies are in place.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of all Citrix environments, including architecture diagrams, configuration records, and standard operating procedures.
Perform scheduled maintenance, apply patches, and execute upgrades to Citrix servers and associated software components.
Investigate and troubleshoot user-reported connectivity problems, application delivery failures, and profile-related issues in a timely fashion.
Assist with the planning and execution of Citrix deployment migrations and modernization initiatives to current versions.
Partner with project stakeholders to assess infrastructure requirements and deliver Citrix solutions that meet business objectives.
Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, helping them grow their Citrix administration skills.
Review and update Citrix security settings, including access policies, authentication methods, and encryption configurations on an ongoing basis.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience managing Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environments in a live production or enterprise context.
Thorough understanding of Windows Server operating systems, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and server hardening practices.
Solid grasp of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, and firewall rule configuration.
Hands-on experience with Citrix ADC (NetScaler) and Citrix Gateway for secure remote access and traffic management.
Working knowledge of virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V and their integration with Citrix.
Proven ability to independently diagnose complex technical problems and drive them to resolution without escalation.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities for preparing technical documentation and presenting findings to various audiences.
Comfort working within a fixed-term contract arrangement, with the flexibility to adapt to changing project timelines.
A degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is typically expected for this position.
Experience with Citrix policies, user profiles, and environment management tools is considered essential for success in this role.
Nice to have
Holding a Citrix Certified Professional or equivalent vendor certification demonstrates a strong commitment to the field.
Hands-on experience with Citrix Director and Citrix Studio for real-time monitoring, reporting, and management dashboards.
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting to automate repetitive Citrix administration, configuration, and health-check tasks.
Exposure to cloud-based virtualization offerings such as Citrix Cloud or Amazon Web Services infrastructure services.
Previous involvement in large-scale Citrix project deployments or enterprise-wide virtualization rollouts, particularly in regulated or compliance-driven industries, is highly regarded.
