About the role
Sift is looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to join their frontend development team at their headquarters in Marina Del Rey, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for creating high-performance data visualization interfaces and developing reusable component libraries to handle complex telemetry data. You will work closely with backend teams to design and implement APIs that ensure seamless user experiences. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge data infrastructure platform that supports mission-critical systems used in aerospace, autonomous vehicles, energy, defense, and more. As part of the team, you will help evolve and scale the platform, building tools that enable hardware engineering teams to turn high-frequency telemetry into actionable insights.

What you'll do
- Develop high-performance, interactive data visualization interfaces tailored for complex telemetry data streams
- Build and maintain reusable component libraries that facilitate rapid UI development and consistency across the platform
- Design intuitive user interfaces that enable efficient data exploration, especially for large real-time datasets
- Collaborate closely with backend teams to define API specifications and ensure smooth integration between frontend and backend systems
- Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code, adhering to best practices and participating in technical design discussions
- Optimize web applications for performance, ensuring fast load times and smooth rendering of complex visualizations
- Contribute to the development of design systems using modern CSS frameworks like Tailwind and component libraries such as Radix UI
- Assist in building frontend architecture that supports the evolving needs of the platform, including handling mission-critical data
- Participate in code reviews, team knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support the deployment and monitoring of frontend applications using GitHub Actions and cloud infrastructure
- Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and implement new features that enhance user experience
- Help define and implement best practices for frontend development within the team
- Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in frontend development, especially those relevant to data visualization and high-performance web applications
- Contribute to documentation and technical specifications to ensure clarity and maintainability of the codebase
- Engage with product managers and stakeholders to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions
- Support the onboarding of new team members by sharing knowledge and mentoring junior developers
- Participate in planning and estimation sessions to help prioritize development tasks and deliverables
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience building web applications and data-driven tools
- Strong expertise in React, Next.js, and TypeScript for production-level applications
- Proven track record of developing scalable and performant web interfaces
- Deep understanding of web performance optimization techniques and browser rendering processes
- Experience with modern CSS frameworks, particularly Tailwind CSS, to create responsive and accessible designs
- Familiarity with component libraries such as Radix UI for building consistent design systems
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams, including backend engineers and product managers
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in complex data visualization contexts
- Experience working with large datasets and optimizing frontend performance for real-time data
- Knowledge of API design principles and experience integrating frontend with backend services
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews
- Experience with version control systems, preferably GitHub
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and deployment tools such as GitHub Actions, AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- U.S. Person Required: Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual such as an asylee or refugee in compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) / EAR (Export Administration Regulations) regulations
Nice to have
- Experience with advanced visualization tools such as WebGL, D3.js, or Apache ECharts, especially for time-series data
- Knowledge of WebAssembly and browser-based computation to enhance frontend performance
- Background in scientific computing or technical data visualization to better understand telemetry data
- Experience building tools for technical users, such as dashboards, data editing environments, or analytical platforms
- Proven track record of building and launching side projects with consistent usage traffic
- Familiarity with data storage and processing technologies like Kafka, Druid, TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, or similar systems
- Understanding of data infrastructure components relevant to high-frequency telemetry data

Practical notes
Sift's headquarters are located in Marina Del Rey, CA, next to LAX. The team collaborates in person twice a week - on Mondays and Thursdays - and comes together for a full week every two months. This on-site role requires working from the office in Marina Del Rey.
