About the role
Sidecar Health is working to modernize the United States healthcare insurance system by increasing transparency and affordability. We are looking for an individual contributor to manage the full product lifecycle, from backend API development to user-facing interface design. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end delivery of critical features that directly impact the member experience and the integrity of our platform. You will be responsible for translating ambiguous requirements into robust technical solutions while maintaining a sharp focus on performance and scalability. This role requires a proactive mindset that balances rapid execution with thoughtful long-term architectural planning. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure that technical decisions align with business goals and user needs. What you'll do
- Develop and deploy end-to-end features, covering everything from server-side APIs to the member-facing frontend.
- Architect scalable systems while balancing speed, performance, and long-term maintainability.
- Incorporate LLM APIs and AI-driven tools into existing product workflows to improve functionality.
- Produce high-quality, tested code for production environments.
- Collaborate with design and product teams to turn business needs into functional software.
- Improve engineering practices through technical mentorship, code reviews, and setting better development standards.
- Implement monitoring and logging strategies to ensure system reliability and quick issue resolution.
- Optimize application delivery pipelines to accelerate release cycles without sacrificing quality.
- Write comprehensive documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support production incidents and resolve critical issues.
- Evaluate new technologies and frameworks to identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency gains.
- Partner with data teams to integrate analytics and ensure data-driven decision making.
- Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability and reduce technical debt over time.
- Lead scoping sessions to estimate effort and define technical requirements for new initiatives.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering with full-stack ownership of production systems.
- Proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript.
- Experience building responsive web applications using Next.js and React.
- Strong understanding of system design, debugging, testing, and code review processes.
- Daily, fluent use of AI tools such as Cursor or Claude.
- Experience managing cloud deployments, with a preference for AWS.
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and currently residing in California.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with healthcare or insurance domain concepts.
- Experience with modern testing frameworks and automated testing practices.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Exposure to compliance and security best practices in regulated environments.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling and infrastructure as code principles.
- Background in product analytics and user behavior tracking.
