About the role
Scorpio Group is seeking an experienced Marine Superintendent to join their operations team based in Mumbai, Powai. This role is responsible for overseeing all marine operations and ensuring that vessel activities meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Marine Superintendent acts as a central technical authority, bridging the gap between onboard crews and shore-based management to ensure smooth execution of maritime missions. The position demands strong leadership, deep technical knowledge, and the ability to manage complex operational challenges in a dynamic marine environment. This is a full-time role requiring regular on-site presence at the Mumbai office.

What you'll do
- Oversee daily marine operations and coordinate vessel schedules across all assigned fleets and projects.
- Ensure strict compliance with international maritime regulations including IMO conventions and flag state requirements.
- Conduct regular safety inspections on vessels and offshore installations to proactively identify potential hazards.
- Manage crew certification records and verify that all personnel hold valid and current seafarer documents.
- Coordinate planned maintenance and repair activities with shipyards and approved technical service providers.
- Review and formally approve marine plans, operational procedures, and detailed risk assessments before execution.
- Liaise with port authorities, customs agents, immigration officials, and other regulatory bodies as required.
- Investigate marine incidents thoroughly and prepare comprehensive reports with actionable corrective recommendations.
- Optimize fuel consumption and overall vessel performance through continuous operational monitoring and data analysis.
- Support the procurement process for marine equipment, spare parts, and technical supplies.
- Train and mentor junior marine staff on operational best practices and established safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all marine activities for internal audit and review.
- Coordinate vessel mobilization and demobilization activities ensuring all logistical and technical requirements are met.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for marine operations in alignment with industry best practices.
- Monitor vessel traffic and coordinate with traffic separation schemes to ensure safe navigation in congested waters.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in marine operations, vessel management, or a related discipline.
- Bachelor's degree in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Oceanography, or a closely related academic field.
- Valid Certificate of Competency as a Master Mariner or Chief Mate recognized by the relevant maritime authority.
- Thorough working knowledge of IMO conventions, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the International Safety Management Code.
- Demonstrated experience managing crews of varying sizes on commercial vessels or offshore support units.
- Strong understanding of maritime safety management systems, risk assessment frameworks, and emergency response planning.
- Proficiency in English for professional maritime communication, technical reporting, and regulatory correspondence.
- Willingness to work on-site at the Scorpio Group office in Mumbai, Powai on a full-time schedule.
- Proven ability to handle emergency situations calmly and make decisive operational decisions under pressure.
- Prior experience serving in a marine superintendent role or equivalent senior marine management position.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with offshore support vessel operations and commercial chartering processes in the Indian waters.
- Hands-on experience with digital fleet management platforms and electronic voyage data recording systems.
- Working knowledge of Indian coastal shipping regulations and port state control inspection procedures.
- Additional professional certifications in maritime security, environmental management, or quality assurance frameworks.
- Exposure to vessel performance analysis, fuel efficiency programs, and carbon emissions reduction initiatives.
