About the role
Scale AI is actively seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join its growing Finance team in San Francisco, California. The successful candidate will own the daily execution of corporate accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP standards. This role is critical in supporting the company's global expansion by implementing scalable financial systems that can grow alongside the business. The hire will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and managing complex balance sheet reconciliations. You will partner closely with various Finance teams to analyze financial flux, build forecasting models, and assemble monthly reporting packages. A key part of this position involves managing documentation for both internal and external audits to guarantee a smooth and successful audit completion. The role will also focus on evaluating and implementing new tools and processes designed to increase operational efficiency and shorten the monthly close cycle. Finally, you will establish and maintain robust internal controls for all assigned accounting areas to mitigate risk and ensure financial accuracy.

What you'll do
- Execute daily corporate accounting operations with precision to ensure the accuracy of U.S. GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
- Create and enhance balance sheet reconciliations, including leading initiatives for historical balance clean-up to ensure data integrity.
- Partner with Finance teams on in-depth flux analysis, forecasting exercises, key metrics tracking, and the assembly of comprehensive monthly reporting packages.
- Manage all documentation related to internal and external audits, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure successful completion and compliance.
- Implement new financial tools and streamlined processes to increase efficiency, reduce manual errors, and shorten the overall close cycle.
- Establish and maintain rigorous internal controls for all assigned accounting areas, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement, providing actionable insights to leadership.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on general ledger management, overseeing the end-to-end process of month-end and year-end close procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to gather necessary information, ensuring timely and accurate financial closures.
- Contribute to the evaluation, selection, and deployment of accounting software and systems that support the company's rapid growth trajectory.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in Accounting from an accredited institution.
- Bring a minimum of 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference for a candidate with a mix of public accounting and industry roles.
- Demonstrate a deep, comprehensive understanding of U.S. GAAP principles and their application in a corporate environment.
- Show proven proficiency in general ledger management and the execution of complex month-end and year-end close procedures.
- Possess direct experience preparing for financial audits, including the coordination and provision of necessary documentation and schedules.
- Exhibit advanced-level Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate large datasets and build complex financial models.
- Maintain general proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite to support daily tasks and cross-team collaboration.
- Highlight strong communication, analytical, and organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Indicate that you are currently pursuing or already hold CPA certification, as this is preferred for this role.
Nice to have
- Candidates with demonstrated experience in accruals, investments, internal-use software, ASC 842 leases, cloud computing arrangements, stock-based compensation, consolidation, or foreign exchange will be viewed favorably.
- Prior proficiency with specific financial technologies such as NetSuite, SQL, FloQast, Coupa, or Jira is considered a distinct advantage.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in San Francisco, California, and the compensation package is highly competitive. The total compensation includes a base salary, equity participation, and a comprehensive benefits package covering health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as retirement plans. Additionally, the package features a learning and development stipend to support professional growth and generous paid time off (PTO). A commuter stipend may also be available to eligible candidates.
