What you'll do
- Design and develop optomechanical systems for satellite payloads, ensuring optimal performance in space conditions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including optical engineers, mechanical engineers, and software developers, to integrate optical systems into satellite platforms.
- Conduct detailed analyses and simulations to validate the performance of optomechanical designs, ensuring they meet mission specifications.
- Oversee the manufacturing process of optomechanical components, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timelines.
- Perform testing and troubleshooting of optomechanical systems, analyzing data to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of design processes, test results, and system specifications for future reference.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in optomechanical engineering, incorporating new technologies and methodologies into your work.
- Support the integration of optomechanical systems with satellite subsystems, ensuring seamless operation and functionality.
- Contribute to project planning and management, helping to define project scope, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance design processes and product performance.
- Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to source materials and components necessary for optomechanical system development.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in optomechanical design and engineering, preferably in the aerospace or satellite industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (such as SolidWorks or CATIA) for designing complex optomechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of optical principles and their application in satellite systems.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools.
- Familiarity with space environment testing and the ability to design systems that can withstand extreme conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.

- Experience with optical system calibration and alignment processes.
