About the role
The Senior AI Engineer will own the design and execution of AI workflows that directly impact the mortgage origination lifecycle. You will translate ambiguous business problems into technical solutions that leverage large language models and structured data pipelines. This role requires you to take full ownership of model behavior from intake to production monitoring. You will be responsible for ensuring that every AI output meets strict standards for accuracy and regulatory compliance. You will act as a technical leader in the Innovation team, challenging the status quo in mortgage processing. The position demands a proactive approach to solving high-stakes problems with real financial implications. You will continuously iterate on deployed systems based on feedback and measurable outcomes.

- Construct robust data ingestion pipelines that transform unstructured loan documents into machine-readable formats.
- Architect scalable LLM applications that handle sensitive financial information with appropriate security controls.
- Implement automated document reading systems that extract critical fields and validate data integrity.
- Develop logic layers for income verification and condition checks that integrate seamlessly with existing platforms.
- Monitor and analyze call insights to refine AI performance and user satisfaction in real-world scenarios.
- Establish rigorous evaluation frameworks for model outputs to ensure adherence to compliance requirements.
- Define and track key metrics that measure the reliability and efficiency of AI-driven mortgage processes.
- Collaborate closely with product managers to align technical deliverables with business objectives and user needs.
- Partner with platform engineering teams to standardize data models and integration protocols across the stack.
- Build and maintain production-grade features that directly interact with borrower data and decisioning systems.
- Optimize prompts and model configurations to balance performance, cost, and accuracy in a regulated environment.
- Lead code reviews and technical design discussions to uphold engineering best practices and system reliability.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for AI capabilities and limitations across cross-functional stakeholder groups.
Requirements
- Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Must possess a minimum of five years of professional software engineering experience.
- Must demonstrate at least three years of hands-on experience with large language models or similar AI technologies.
- Must have a proven track record of deploying machine learning models into production environments.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship of any kind.
- Must be able to commit to the hybrid schedule defined as Tuesday through Thursday in South Charlotte, NC.
- Must maintain remote availability on Mondays and Fridays as required by team collaboration norms.
- Must comply with all security and data handling policies relevant to financial services applications.
- Must understand the implications of visa restrictions and employment eligibility rules for this role.
- Must refrain from any arrangements that involve work corp-to-corp or third-party contracting for this position.
- Must meet the high bar for senior-level ownership, judgment, and execution in a fast-paced setting.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical partners.
- Must be comfortable working with regulated data and understanding the importance of auditability.

Practical notes
This role operates on a hybrid schedule requiring in-office presence on Tuesday through Thursday in South Charlotte, North Carolina. Remote work is permitted on Mondays and Fridays. The position is not open to visa sponsorship or transfer of any visa status, including H1-B, F-1, OPT, STEM-OPT, or TN. The role is also not available for work corp-to-corp arrangements.
