Roofstock is seeking an Institutional Property Accountant to manage full cycle accounting tasks for our property management division. You will serve as a primary contact for financial reporting, ensuring accuracy for both internal leadership and external clients. In this capacity, you will own the integrity of transaction processing and the reliability of our financial data. You will act as a key liaison between operational teams and finance, translating property activity into clear financial insights. The role requires a disciplined approach to detail and a commitment to maintaining robust internal controls. You will play a critical part in supporting strategic decisions by providing timely and accurate financial information.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Handle daily accounting operations across multiple regional portfolios, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Generate monthly financial reports, including accrual journal entries and bank reconciliations, following GAAP standards to ensure compliance and transparency.
- Calculate and process monthly client distributions, verifying calculations and documenting procedures for auditability.
- Oversee general ledger accuracy and maintain subsidiary ledgers to support detailed financial analysis and reporting.
- Assist Property Accounting Managers with month-end closes and special projects, contributing to tight deadlines and high-quality deliverables.
- Manage tenant ledger reconciliations, billing adjustments, and cash receipt tracking to ensure accounts are current and disputes are resolved.
- Verify invoice coding to ensure compliance with capitalization policies, protecting the company from misclassification risks.
- Collaborate across departments to finalize financial packages, aligning with internal controls and external reporting requirements.
- Investigate historical cash transactions to provide data to Regional Directors and Portfolio Managers, resolving discrepancies and improving data quality.
- Support internal and external audit processes, providing documentation and explanations to facilitate smooth and timely audits.
- Research state-specific accounting regulations to ensure property transactions are handled in accordance with local rules and requirements.
- File annual 1099 and 1096 forms, plus quarterly 592 and 588 filings for the Franchise Tax Board, maintaining strict compliance with filing deadlines.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or equivalent, demonstrating a foundational understanding of financial principles and practices.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in real estate accounting, proving your ability to navigate complex property financials.
- Ability to work in Dallas, Texas, ensuring reliable presence and engagement with the team and stakeholders.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without H1-B visa sponsorship, confirming your eligibility for employment without third-party work authorization.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization abilities, allowing you to manage competing demands effectively.
