What you'll do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that power Roku's streaming platform, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Collaborate with product managers and UX/UI designers to translate business requirements into technical specifications and actionable tasks.
• Implement RESTful APIs and microservices architecture to enhance the functionality and reliability of our streaming services.
• Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
• Optimize existing systems for performance and scalability, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to enhance user experience.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to deployment and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to service delivery.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating best practices into the development process.
• Contribute to the documentation of system designs, APIs, and processes to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
• Collaborate with QA engineers to ensure comprehensive testing and validation of software solutions before deployment.
• Engage in agile methodologies, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to drive project success.
• Work closely with DevOps teams to streamline deployment processes and enhance system reliability through automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on backend systems.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go, with a solid understanding of object-oriented design principles.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong knowledge of database systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases, and experience in designing efficient data models.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality software on time and within budget.
• Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git, and experience with CI/CD pipelines.

Nice to have

• Experience with streaming technologies and protocols, such as HLS or DASH.
• Knowledge of frontend technologies like React or Angular, enabling collaboration with frontend teams.
• Familiarity with agile project management tools such as Jira or Trello.
• Contributions to open-source projects or personal projects that demonstrate your passion for software development.
• Understanding of security best practices in software development and data protection.
