What you'll do

• Design and implement robust software solutions for Roku's streaming platform, ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define technical requirements and develop innovative features that enhance user engagement.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members to maintain high coding standards and best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner to ensure a seamless user experience.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
• Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for software designs, APIs, and system architecture.
• Mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise and fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure Roku remains at the forefront of streaming innovation.
• Collaborate with QA teams to develop and execute test plans, ensuring software quality and reliability.
• Optimize existing code and systems to improve performance and reduce latency, enhancing the overall user experience.
• Engage in agile methodologies, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to ensure effective project management.
• Contribute to the development of internal tools and frameworks that streamline the software development process.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on backend systems and APIs.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Experience with cloud services and platforms, particularly AWS or Google Cloud, is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases, and experience with data modeling and query optimization.
• Familiarity with software development methodologies, particularly Agile and Scrum, and experience working in a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with video streaming technologies and protocols, such as HLS, DASH, or RTMP.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks, is a plus.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
• Previous experience in the entertainment or media industry, particularly in streaming services, is advantageous.
