Roblox is seeking a Manager of Data Center Operations to oversee and expand the company's core data center and hardware infrastructure during a period of significant business growth. This leadership position involves managing a team of data center engineers while also contributing as an individual performer to ensure millions of concurrent players enjoy seamless experiences across the global platform. You will be responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure components including servers, networking equipment, power systems, and environmental monitoring solutions. The role reports directly to the Senior Manager of Data Center Operations and requires full-time onsite presence at the Goodyear, Arizona facility five days per week. What you'll do

• Oversee the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of core data center infrastructure to support the large-scale, real-time demands of the Roblox platform, ensuring players worldwide have consistently excellent experiences regardless of their location or device.
• Lead and mentor an expanding team of data center engineers who handle rack deployments, hardware troubleshooting, break-fix operations, and equipment decommissioning processes throughout the facility lifecycle.
• Conduct thorough root cause analysis when critical problems arise and develop actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence, including identifying opportunities for increased automation and process optimization.
• Provide comprehensive training and guidance to team members on best practices for server hardware and network infrastructure maintenance, troubleshooting methodologies, and repair procedures.
• Create, refine, and implement operational documentation including runbooks, standard operating procedures, and methods of procedure to ensure consistent execution and knowledge transfer across the organization.
• Establish and monitor key performance metrics and infrastructure standards that support the organization's goals of achieving maximum scalability and maintaining high availability across all systems.
• Participate actively in the on-call rotation for critical infrastructure, responding to emergent issues and coordinating resolution efforts to minimize platform impact and restore normal operations quickly.
• Lead the planning and execution of new core site buildouts around the world, including low voltage cabling design and installation, bill of materials creation, and vendor relationship management.
• Manage server and network equipment provisioning from initial receipt through deployment, ensuring proper configuration, documentation, and integration with existing infrastructure systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to identify infrastructure requirements, plan capacity expansions, and implement solutions that support platform growth and new feature development.
• Monitor environmental systems including power distribution, cooling, and physical security to ensure optimal operating conditions and compliance with equipment specifications and safety requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across data center operations, identifying inefficiencies, proposing solutions, and implementing changes that enhance reliability, reduce costs, or improve team productivity.

Requirements

• Minimum of ten years of hands-on experience working within large-scale data center infrastructure environments, demonstrating progressive responsibility and technical depth across multiple systems and technologies.
• At least three years of proven leadership experience managing teams of three or more data center engineers, including hiring, performance management, professional development, and day-to-day operational oversight.
• Extensive practical experience installing, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting server and network equipment, including brand new hardware provisioning and configuration from initial deployment through production readiness.
• Comprehensive knowledge of data center environments including power distribution, cooling systems, rack configurations, cabling standards, and physical security requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to execute multiple concurrent tasks and projects effectively, prioritizing work appropriately and delivering results within established timelines and quality standards.
• Physical capability to install various equipment commonly found in data center environments and ability to lift up to seventy-five pounds occasionally as required for hardware handling and installation activities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to formulate hypotheses, gather relevant data, evaluate multiple potential solutions, and implement optimal approaches including novel solutions when standard methods prove insufficient.
• Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members, leadership, vendors, and cross-functional partners, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and document procedures thoroughly.
• Willingness and ability to work onsite at the Goodyear, Arizona data center facility five days per week as required for this hands-on operational leadership role.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting infrastructure for large-scale gaming platforms, real-time applications, or other latency-sensitive services with millions of concurrent users.
• Familiarity with multiple commercial off-the-shelf hardware brands and the ability to troubleshoot across diverse vendor equipment and configurations.
• Background in automation tools and scripting languages commonly used for data center operations, infrastructure monitoring, and repetitive task elimination.
• Previous experience building out new data center facilities from initial planning through operational handoff, including vendor selection, project management, and commissioning activities.
• Knowledge of emerging data center technologies, sustainability practices, and industry trends that could benefit infrastructure efficiency and operational excellence.
• Certifications in relevant technical areas such as data center management, network administration, or specific hardware vendor programs.
