What you'll do

• Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the organization to establish the vision, strategic direction, and comprehensive roadmap for the future of observability infrastructure at Roblox
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of skilled engineers who are constructing AI-powered observability platforms and intelligent developer infrastructure solutions
• Cultivate a robust engineering culture that emphasizes ownership, strong execution, continuous innovation, collaborative teamwork, and measurable customer impact
• Drive strategic initiatives designed to boost developer productivity, enhance operational excellence, and improve platform reliability at enterprise scale
• Contribute to shaping the evolution of AI-driven developer tooling, including continuous integration and continuous deployment systems, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps experiences across the Roblox platform
• Own the complete observability stack encompassing telemetry collection, distributed tracing systems, centralized logging infrastructure, performance profiling tools, storage systems, and developer-facing visualization interfaces
• Partner closely with infrastructure teams, product engineering organizations, and AI platform groups to ensure alignment and maximize impact
• Balance long-term platform investments with immediate business priorities while maintaining strong technical judgment throughout decision-making processes
• Build and scale high-performing engineering teams through strategic hiring, ongoing mentorship, and professional development programs
• Establish metrics and success criteria for observability initiatives that align with broader company objectives and engineering productivity goals
• Drive adoption of observability tools and practices across engineering teams to ensure maximum value extraction from platform investments
• Represent the observability infrastructure team in cross-functional discussions and contribute to company-wide technical strategy conversations

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of engineering management experience with demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, and cultivating high-performing technical teams
• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and data infrastructure in production environments
• Strong technical judgment combined with proven execution capabilities, enabling effective balance between strategic platform investments and near-term business deliverables
• Genuine passion for developer experience, platform engineering principles, and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance engineering productivity and operational excellence
• Outstanding communication abilities and cross-functional collaboration skills spanning engineering, product management, and infrastructure organizations
• Demonstrated ability to define and execute technical vision while navigating complex organizational dynamics
• Experience working in fast-paced environments where priorities shift and adaptability is essential
• Track record of delivering impactful infrastructure projects that measurably improve developer workflows and system reliability

Nice to have

• Prior experience with observability platforms including metrics collection, distributed tracing, log aggregation, or performance profiling systems
• Background in AI and machine learning powered infrastructure or intelligent automation systems
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD platforms and DevOps tooling ecosystems
• Experience building developer-facing tools and platforms with strong emphasis on user experience
• Knowledge of storage systems optimized for time-series data and high-volume telemetry ingestion

Practical notes

• This position is based at Roblox headquarters in San Mateo, California
• Office presence is required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week, with Monday and Friday being optional
• Full-time employees receive equity compensation in addition to base salary
