Staff Software Engineer, Portfolio Accounting

About the role

You will lead your team in adopting AI-assisted engineering practices by driving experiments that measurably improve productivity, quality, and outcomes while sharing learnings with adjacent teams. You will evaluate AI tooling critically, identifying risks such as hallucination and security exposure, and establish guardrails that enable responsible adoption. You will contribute accounting domain knowledge, design skills, and technical expertise to a cross-functional team. You will participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design reviews to shipping production code. You will lead the design and evolution of cloud-native services on AWS, soliciting broad feedback and building team consensus around key architectural decisions. You will represent the team's systems in cross-functional technical discussions and contribute to Ridgeline's Architecture Advice Process. You will build developer automation that enables scalable, high-quality applications relied upon by asset managers. You will coach and mentor engineers responsible for delivering secure, high-performing enterprise applications. You will participate in engineering hiring and talent-building initiatives. You will think creatively, own complex problems, seek pragmatic solutions, and communicate clearly along the way.

What you'll do

• Architect and implement high-throughput accounting workflows that transform raw market data into reliable, audit-ready portfolio valuations across diverse asset classes.
• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and Cursor, running experiments that quantify impact on delivery speed and defect reduction.
• Define and enforce guardrails for responsible AI usage, mitigating risks like hallucination, security exposure, and regression in production behavior.
• Lead design sessions for cloud-native services on AWS, translating business requirements into resilient, observable, and cost-effective system architectures.
• Drive the full software development lifecycle, conducting rigorous design reviews, writing production-grade code, and guiding testing strategies from unit through end-to-end validation.
• Build and maintain developer automation platforms that empower asset managers to onboard new data sources and deploy configurations rapidly and safely.
• Serve as a technical spokesperson for the Portfolio Accounting system, articulating trade-offs and decisions during cross-functional discussions and architecture reviews.
• Mentor engineers on best practices for security, performance, and maintainability, fostering a culture where craftsmanship and reliability are non-negotiable.
• Analyze operational metrics to identify bottlenecks and orchestrate improvements that enhance availability, latency, and scalability of accounting workflows.
• Facilitate consensus around architectural direction, ensuring alignment between product ambitions, operational realities, and long-term platform strategy.
• Coach the team in agile and lean delivery practices, removing impediments and enabling sustainable, high-velocity execution.
• Contribute to Ridgeline's Architecture Advice Process by documenting decisions, patterns, and trade-offs that become reusable organizational knowledge.
• Explore emerging data models and industry standards, translating complex asset management concepts into robust, extensible software designs.
• Act as a quality champion, promoting test automation, observability, and feedback loops that catch issues before they reach production users.

Requirements

You must have 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of designing and delivering new products. You must bring 3+ years of experience in Portfolio Accounting, Reconciliation, Market Data, or FinTech application development. You hold a Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related discipline. You have experience building cloud-native applications, preferably on AWS. You are familiar with high-availability systems, production on-call practices, and performance monitoring. You understand automated testing strategies across multiple levels. You can balance short-term priorities with long-term architectural thinking. You communicate with clarity and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholders. You are willing to learn and explore cutting-edge technologies while cultivating expertise in complex business domains. You demonstrate strong problem-solving aptitude and a serious interest in having fun at work. You must be work authorized in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.
