About the role
You will research and write technical documentation that explains ALSO's e-bike hardware and software to a global audience. You will own the end-to-end creation of owner's guides, service manuals, and accessory documentation while ensuring consistency across all deliverables. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, support, testing, marketing, and product management to translate complex technical details into clear, scalable content. You will participate in product teardowns, builds, and validation testing to keep documentation accurate and practical. You will manage content through revision control, translation, and file organization to maintain integrity over time. You will deliver documentation in multiple formats including print, PDF, web-based, and mobile platforms. You will keep documentation up to date on newly released features and improvements. You will collaborate with the Tech Publications team to improve documentation processes, quality, and usability continuously.

What you'll do
- Produce technical content to assemble, use, and service our products (hardware and software).
- Create content that is scalable across multiple products and can be easily translated into multiple languages.
- Learn complex technical products quickly with the assistance of subject matter experts.
- Partner with technical illustrators to create renderings and video that will be integrated into technical publications.
- Perform all phases of content development, including planning and research, design, writing, editing, embedding illustrations, and publishing.
- Deliver documentation in multiple formats (print, PDF, web-based, mobile) and integrate with internal platforms or service portals.
- Manage content through revision control, translation, and file management.
- Keep documentation up to date on newly released features.
- Work with the Tech Publications team to continually improve documentation process, quality, and usability.
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure consistency and transparency across all documentation.
Requirements
- Minimum 2-4 years of technical writing experience in a complex product environment (hardware AND software).
- Must have experience documenting hardware assembly or installation at the product level (you know and care what a torque specification is).
- Experience developing topic-based and structured content, understand information architecture principles and content organization, and write for a global audience by default.
- Exceptional proficiency in written English for documentation that is accurate, concise, and flows logically.
- Detail oriented, systematic, and investigative writing process.
- Demonstrated ability to learn complex technical products quickly from subject matter experts and translate it into documentation relevant to the target audience.
- Proficient in XML or HTML authoring tools such as Flare or oXygen (experience specifically in Madcap Flare a plus).
- Basic knowledge of photography and image editing software (Photoshop, GIMP, Illustrator, etc.).
- PC proficiency in MS Office or Google Suite.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while meeting tight deadlines.
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in an environment with competing demands.
- Self-starter with an emphasis on teamwork skills.
- Experience with CMS, LMS and/or TMS a plus.
- Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, or similar project management tools a plus.
- Experience specifically in bicycles, EVs, or consumer electronics a plus.
- Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards (CE, EN, ISO, UL, etc.) a plus.
Nice to have

Practical notes
The position is based in Palo Alto and is a full-time engagement. The salary range is $85,000 to $100,000 per year, dependent on experience and qualifications. The role may involve travel, and candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
