Global Commodity Manager, Semiconductors
Job description
About the role
You will architect and execute the global sourcing strategy for the EE components and semiconductors that power our vehicles from early concept through mass production. You will own the semiconductor technology roadmap to ensure our product architecture stays aligned with the trajectory of the industry and our suppliers. You will manage the end-to-end Approved Vendor List, handling everything from discovering and qualifying new sources to evaluating their ongoing performance once they are onboarded. You will negotiate long-term agreements, Master Purchase Agreements, and quality terms to secure the high-priority parts required to build and scale our platform. You will lead BOM scrubs to uncover end-of-life risks, single-source exposure, and technical bottlenecks before design freeze, collaborating with Architecture and Engineering to shape decisions for the right balance of cost, performance, and resilience. You will build and leverage should-cost models to drive down total cost of ownership through negotiation and value engineering. You will monitor the electronics supply chain for geopolitical or capacity-related vulnerabilities, putting hedging and continuity plans in place before issues escalate. You will track pricing swings, lead-time shifts, capacity, and advances in silicon technology to inform your strategy, and you will establish supplier performance metrics, running regular business reviews and traveling to supplier sites when it moves the needle on cost, relationships, or development.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build and execute the global sourcing strategy for the EE components and semiconductors across our current and next-gen vehicle roadmap, with scalability designed in from the start.
- Own a semiconductor technology roadmap that keeps our product architecture aligned with where suppliers and the industry are heading.
- Own the Approved Vendor List end to end, running the full supplier lifecycle from finding and qualifying new sources to evaluating how they perform once they're in.
- Negotiate the long-term agreements, Master Purchase Agreements, and quality terms that lock in the high-priority parts we need to build and scale.
- Lead BOM scrubs to catch end-of-life risks, single-source exposure, and technical bottlenecks before design freeze, and partner with Architecture and Engineering to shape design decisions for the right balance of cost, performance, and resilience.
- Own should-cost modeling and use it to drive down total cost of ownership through negotiation and value engineering.
- Spot vulnerabilities in the EE supply chain, whether that's geopolitics or a capacity crunch, and put hedging and continuity plans in place before they bite.
- Keep a read on the market. Pricing swings, lead-time shifts, capacity, and technical advances in silicon all feed your strategy.
- Stand up supplier performance metrics, run regular business reviews, and travel to supplier sites when it moves the needle on cost, relationships, or development.
Requirements
- 7+ years in global sourcing or commodity management, specifically with semiconductors or complex EE components, plus real NPI experience.
- Direct sourcing experience in at least one or two of these: computing (CPUs/GPUs/FPGAs/MCUs, DRAM/NAND), perception (IMUs, radar, vision sensors, camera modules), power & motion (PMICs, battery management systems, motor controllers), connectivity (USB/PCIe/CAN/Ethernet, wireless, signal integrity), or interaction (display and touch).
- BS in Engineering (EE preferred), Supply Chain, or Business Management.
- A track record of landing long-term agreements with global manufacturers, backed by deep technical knowledge of the semiconductor ecosystem.
- Comfortable operating as the subject-matter expert with a lot of autonomy.
- Strong at building relationships inside and outside the company.
