About the role

Relay is fundamentally reshaping how goods move in an online era. The role owns the definition and execution of how Relay measures and improves courier excellence across the Last Mile network. You will shape what happens on the doorstep and manage performance before and after that interaction. This position works with the entire Last Mile team and partners closely with data scientists, engineers, and operators across the squad. You will own the evolution of the performance management framework from its v1 into something materially better. The role requires thinking in systems to balance speed, quality, and risk across handover optimization and courier analytics.

What you'll do

• Define and measure the key trade-offs in courier handover optimization, modeling competing outcomes of speed, quality, and risk across the network.
• Design and run experiments to quantify what works, shaping the measurement framework that evaluates courier performance in the Last Mile.
• Own the evolution of the performance management framework, defining the right behaviors to measure and evaluating interventions designed to help couriers.
• Partner with product, operations, and engineering to close the loop on performance management so the framework continuously improves.
• Build and analyze courier-facing segmentation and risk scores to understand how different cohorts respond to changes and incentives.
• Create transparent analytics for couriers, evaluating how performance and rewards visibility impacts behavior and outcomes for Relay.
• Run data-led interventions and assess their real-world impact on both courier experience and network quality.
• Communicate findings inclusively to non-technical stakeholders, aligning operations, product, and leadership on actions and trade-offs.
• Use first-principles thinking to break complex logistical problems into components and identify the highest-leverage analytical opportunities.
• Ship descriptive analysis and insights that drive decisions within the same week, balancing speed with rigor in a fast-moving environment.
• Work with thousands of data points captured, calculated, analyzed, and predicted for every parcel handled by the Relay network.
• Act as the analytical owner for the Last Mile squad, defining roadmaps and executing against them with autonomy and impact.

Requirements

• You are a strong analyst who thinks in systems, breaking complex problems into components and knowing where the real opportunity lies.
• You are successful working with high autonomy and are excited to operate in a Product/Programme Manager-like capacity, defining the roadmap as well as executing against it.
• You care about solving the problem more than which techniques you use, adapting methods to the needs of the business and the constraints of the network.
• You love working with smart, motivated people in an intellectually vibrant culture of first-principles thinking, tight feedback loops, and relentless experimentation.
• You are fluent in SQL, able to design, read, and optimize queries that power critical analytics across the Last Mile operation.
• You are comfortable across the analytical spectrum, designing and reading experiments, building risk scores and segmentation, and shipping descriptive analysis that drives decisions the same week.
• You communicate inclusively with non-technical team members, translating complex analytical concepts into clear actions for operations and leadership.
• You love seeing the impact of your work play out in daily operations, from courier behavior to network performance and customer experience.
• You have experience working on performance management, marketplace quality, operational analytics, or another relevant domain that aligns with Relay's needs.
• You thrive in an environment with thousands of data points per parcel, using statistical thinking to drive measurable improvements.
• You are based in London and able to work hybrid, with 4 days on-site in Shoreditch and 1 day remote.
• You are comfortable using hardware of your choice within a culture that values developer experience and tooling.

• Experience working on courier or marketplace quality where incentives, rewards, and performance management intersect.
• Background in operational analytics or logistics domains where trade-offs between speed, risk, and quality are central.
• Familiarity with high-volume data environments where decisions must be shipped quickly and iteratively.
• Exposure to experimentation platforms and measurement frameworks in fast-growth tech environments.
• Experience collaborating with engineers to deploy data products that influence real-world behavior at scale.
