About the role

You will perform receiving inspections of PCBA and subassemblies for avionics systems, verifying conformance to detailed engineering specifications and regulatory standards. You own the quality gate for incoming components, ensuring only compliant materials proceed into production and supporting lines. This position requires extensive travel to supplier locations, where you will conduct source inspections, supplier audits, and compliance verifications to uphold Relativity's quality expectations. You will maintain detailed inspection records and traceability documentation for all avionics hardware and installations. You will collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and test teams to resolve nonconformities and implement corrective actions. You will support the reliability team in scaling inspection processes and quality controls as Terran R moves toward production and launch operations. You will exercise ownership and judgment to identify risks early and drive continuous improvement across the avionics supply chain. You will contribute to a culture where technical rigor, autonomy, and speed enable breakthroughs in how rockets are built and launched.

What you'll do

Perform receiving inspections of printed circuit board assemblies and avionics subassemblies against drawings, specifications, and test results.

Travel approximately 80% of the time to supplier sites, both locally and domestically, conducting source inspections, process audits, and supplier quality assessments.

Maintain detailed inspection records, test reports, and traceability documentation for all avionics components and systems.

Verify that all hardware, wire harnesses, and installations comply with regulatory standards, company policies, and customer requirements.

Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities by working with engineering, manufacturing, and test teams to resolve nonconformities.

Inspect, document, and validate acceptance of avionics hardware at various stages of production and pre-launch activities.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and improve inspection procedures, test methods, and quality controls.

Ensure that inspection processes scale effectively as the Terran R program progresses toward production and launch cadence.

Promote a reliability-first mindset by identifying risks early, escalating issues, and driving mitigation actions with suppliers.

Contribute to the development and execution of first article inspection protocols and ongoing process verification activities.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Minimum of five years of experience performing inspections or quality assurance in avionics, aerospace, defense, or a related regulated industry.

Demonstrated experience with receiving inspections, first article inspections, and supplier quality activities.

Knowledge of avionics systems, PCBA assemblies, wire harnesses, and installation practices within aerospace or defense environments.

Understanding of relevant regulatory standards and quality management systems such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, test procedures, and inspection checklists.

Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify nonconformities and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Effective communication skills to interact with suppliers, engineering teams, and internal stakeholders at all levels.

Nice to have

Experience with Terran R or launch vehicle avionics development is preferred.

Familiarity with advanced manufacturing environments and rapid production scaling in aerospace is a plus.

Practical notes

This role operates on a standard first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. PT, with a 50-hour workweek that includes 10 guaranteed overtime hours each week.

Travel is an essential job function and requires approximately 80% domestic and local travel to supplier sites.

This position is located in Long Beach, California, and is subject to the requirements of that location.
