We are currently looking for a Site Controller Software Engineer to strengthen our digital infrastructure, which is essential for transitioning to a more agile energy ecosystem.

What you'll do
- Design and develop a robust software architecture for the Site Controller, ensuring seamless coordination among numerous distributed microcontrollers while maintaining continuous operation.
- Spearhead the creation of multi-rate control systems that enhance site coordination and facilitate real-time grid execution, working closely with simulation and controls teams.
- Establish fault-management frameworks that allow for autonomous error recovery and ensure safe operational modes.
- Define the physical and real-time networking layers, creating reliable communication protocols to facilitate data flow between the site controller and local assets.
- Develop essential software interfaces for our "Pack Manager" technology, ensuring high availability and resilient data exchange.
- Construct modular and testable software with a strong focus on automated unit and integration testing to validate system performance.
- Implement distributed logging tools to improve telemetry data flows, enabling real-time monitoring of system health and performance metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that software solutions align with overall project goals and timelines.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices in software development to enhance team productivity and code quality.
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve our software solutions.
- Document software designs and processes to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and support future development efforts.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, with at least 2 years of experience in application-layer software development for hardware-constrained systems.
- Proficiency in Rust and Python, with a solid understanding of their applications in site orchestration and rapid tooling development.
- Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols, especially Modbus TCP and CAN, with additional experience in DNP3 or IEC 61850 being a plus.
- Extensive experience in Linux system administration and familiarity with modern containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, particularly for edge computing applications.
- Proven track record in managing high-availability Firmware Over-the-Air (OTA) pipelines for secure updates from cloud to downstream controllers.
- Familiarity with time-series databases and data visualization tools to monitor system performance and energy flows effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate off-the-shelf components from vendors into a unified software platform.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Nice to have
- Experience with advanced data lifecycle management and monitoring tools that enhance system performance and reliability.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques for predictive maintenance and optimization of energy storage systems.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices related to industrial control systems and data integrity.

Practical notes
In compliance with California pay transparency regulations, the salary range for this position is between $180,000 and $237,500 USD. Actual compensation may differ based on various factors, including individual experience and skill levels.
