About the role
As a Solutions Engineer specializing in energy storage, you will serve as a crucial technical link between Redwood Materials and its clients. This role is designed to bridge the gap between commercial and engineering teams, ensuring that technical capabilities are effectively communicated during client interactions. The ideal candidate will have a background in design or applications engineering and a strong desire to improve customer engagement while contributing to the expansion of Redwood's commercial initiatives.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Serve as a technical consultant during client meetings, conducting on-site assessments and feasibility studies to evaluate project viability.
- Collaborate closely with clients to develop initial system designs, address site-specific integration requirements, and draft project outlines that translate client needs into clear technical specifications.
- Contribute to the preparation of commercial proposals, which include creating Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs), designing system layouts, drafting technical specifications, and assisting in pricing and capacity modeling.
- Build and sustain a comprehensive understanding of Redwood's energy storage solutions, encompassing battery chemistry, pack configurations, system architecture, degradation characteristics, and performance metrics, acting as the primary technical resource for the commercial team.
- Partner with engineering teams to collect customer feedback, identify any capability gaps, and shape the product development roadmap based on insights gathered from the field and changing customer requirements.
- Equip the commercial team with the knowledge and tools necessary to address technical inquiries independently, reducing the need for core engineering involvement in routine customer interactions and design decisions as the company scales.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance the commercial team's understanding of technical aspects, ensuring they are well-prepared to engage with clients.
- Monitor industry trends and advancements in energy storage technology to keep the team informed and competitive in the market.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field is essential.
- A hands-on approach to problem-solving, with a readiness to visit customer sites and engage directly with challenges.
- Ability to work independently, making informed decisions regarding technology and product applications without needing constant oversight from engineering leadership.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time for client engagements and site evaluations.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across teams and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a simplified manner.
- Proven experience in a customer-facing technical role, demonstrating the ability to translate client needs into actionable solutions.

Salary Information
In accordance with California's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this position is set between $125,000 and $165,000 USD. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, education, and specific skill sets.
