Data Scientist
Job description
About the role
Redhorse Corporation invites qualified applicants to consider a career with a solution-driven organization dedicated to delivering data insights and technology solutions in service of U.S. national interests. The company seeks thoughtful, skilled professionals who thrive as trusted partners, building technology-agnostic solutions and supporting customers with difficult and important mission sets. This is a moment to join a team shaping critical capabilities for the Department of Defense. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, transforming ambiguous logistical questions into actionable intelligence. Your analysis will directly influence how materiel flows through critical pathways, impacting the readiness of forces deployed in challenging environments. You will act as a bridge between raw data streams and high-stakes decision cycles, ensuring that models are not just accurate but operationally robust. Success in this role requires a blend of technical depth and communication skill, allowing you to translate complex methodologies into clear guidance for leaders. You will be expected to challenge assumptions, validate findings against real-world outcomes, and iterate on solutions until they meet the stringent demands of the joint logistics enterprise.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and develop data ingestion pipelines for diverse military logistics data sources, ensuring reliability and scalability under demanding conditions.
- Map and analyze mission workflows to define and measure key outcomes for logistic operations, identifying bottlenecks and opportunities for efficiency.
- Implement machine learning models that process structured records and document fragments, extracting signal from complex, high-volume information streams.
- Coordinate regular reviews with stakeholders to ensure analytics align with tactical and operational needs, fostering collaboration across distributed teams.
- Ship and maintain dashboards that track material movement, readiness indicators, and logistical performance, providing clear visibility into system health.
- Establish monitoring routines to detect model decay and shifts in data quality over time, proactively managing risks to analytical integrity.
- Partner with allied forces to test prototypes in controlled operational environments, validating concepts in realistic scenarios.
- Document methods, processes, and systems architecture to ensure teams can maintain and evolve solutions with minimal ongoing assistance, promoting sustainability.
- Apply advanced statistical techniques to assess uncertainty and risk, supporting leaders in making informed choices with incomplete information.
- Optimize data architectures to support rapid querying and analysis, reducing latency in the decision-making process.
- Conduct exploratory analysis to uncover hidden patterns and trends, generating hypotheses that drive strategic logistics initiatives.
- Ensure all work adheres to strict data governance standards, protecting sensitive information and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into well-defined analytical frameworks, guiding the selection of appropriate methods and tools.
- Contribute to the development of a data-driven culture within the directorate, mentoring peers and junior analysts on best practices.
Requirements
This position requires a current security clearance allowing access to sensitive compartments relevant to defense work. The successful candidate will bring experience totaling a minimum of four years working with advanced analytical methods in complex and sensitive settings. You must possess fluency in Python for manipulating large tables and time-series information, demonstrating mastery of core libraries and data structures. Capability to write clear, efficient queries that extract records from varied storage systems, including databases and data lakes, is essential for daily operations. A strong understanding of experimental design is required to ensure evaluation metrics reflect real operational value and impact, avoiding misleading conclusions. Skill in using visualization libraries to create clear, interactive interfaces for decision-makers is necessary to communicate findings effectively. Knowledge of data versioning approaches is mandatory to track changes across analytic iterations and model development, ensuring reproducibility. The ability to explain complex technical processes to non-technical audiences without relying on jargon is a critical component of the role, enabling cross-functional alignment. You must be able to work independently in a sensitive environment, managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
Nice to have
Experience with tools specifically used for querying and managing large-scale document collections is highly desirable and considered a strong asset for this role.
Practical notes
This role is contingent upon the successful completion of security clearance requirements. The annual compensation for this full-time position is specified as $161,421.00.
