About the role
Bamboohr is seeking a dedicated Intellectual Property Counsel to join our team in Ljubljana, Carniola. What you'll do
- Provide expert legal advice on a range of intellectual property issues, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements related to intellectual property, such as licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and collaboration contracts.
- Conduct thorough assessments of intellectual property portfolios to identify potential risks and opportunities for clients.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including R&D and marketing, to ensure that intellectual property considerations are integrated into product development and business strategies.
- Represent the company in intellectual property disputes, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution, when necessary.
- Stay updated on changes in intellectual property laws and regulations, both locally and internationally, to ensure compliance and provide proactive guidance.
- Develop and deliver training sessions for internal stakeholders on intellectual property best practices and compliance.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of patent and trademark applications, working closely with external counsel as needed.
- Monitor and analyze competitors' intellectual property activities to inform strategic decision-making.
- Support the commercialization of intellectual property assets by advising on market entry strategies and potential licensing opportunities.
- Engage with external legal counsel and other advisors to ensure effective management of intellectual property matters.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to intellectual property management within the organization.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in intellectual property law, preferably within a corporate or law firm setting.
- Strong understanding of patent, trademark, and copyright laws, as well as relevant international treaties and agreements.
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating intellectual property agreements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable advice.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience in a technology-driven industry, such as software, biotechnology, or pharmaceuticals.
- Familiarity with intellectual property management software and tools.
- Previous experience in managing intellectual property litigation or disputes.
- Membership in a relevant professional organization, such as the International Trademark Association (INTA) or the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
- An advanced degree in a technical field (e.g., engineering, computer science, life sciences) is highly desirable.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in legal research tools and databases, such as LexisNexis or Westlaw.
- Familiarity with intellectual property management systems and software.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for document preparation and presentations.
- Ability to utilize project management tools to track and manage multiple intellectual property projects simultaneously.
