Quantanite is seeking a Technical Team Leader to join their growing team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. This permanent role involves overseeing technical staff and guiding the direction of engineering and development efforts within the organization. The Technical Team Leader will be responsible for managing team members, setting technical standards, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and to a high standard of quality. This position requires someone with strong leadership abilities and deep technical knowledge to drive the team forward, support the company's long-term objectives, and work closely with senior management to shape the technical vision and strategy for the department.

What you'll do
Lead a team of technical professionals and provide guidance on day-to-day engineering tasks and project priorities.
Set technical direction for the team and ensure alignment with the broader goals of Quantanite.
Review code, designs, and technical documents to maintain quality and consistency across all deliverables.
Mentor junior and mid-level team members through coaching, feedback, and structured development plans.
Collaborate with other departments to define project scope, timelines, and resource needs.
Own the technical roadmap for your area and present progress updates to senior leadership.
Identify and resolve technical blockers that may slow down the team or impact delivery timelines.
Recruit, interview, and onboard new team members to fill open positions and strengthen capabilities.
Establish best practices for software development, testing, and deployment within the team.
Drive continuous improvement by evaluating existing processes and proposing more efficient workflows.
Facilitate knowledge sharing across the team through documentation, technical talks, and structured learning sessions.
Ensure that all technical deliverables meet compliance requirements and internal governance standards at every stage.
Requirements
Proven experience leading technical teams or managing engineering staff in a professional environment.
Strong understanding of software development principles, system architecture, and project delivery methodologies.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize competing demands effectively.
Experience mentoring and developing the skills of junior and mid-level professionals.
A degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field is expected.
Track record of delivering technical projects on schedule and within defined budgets.
Ability to make sound technical decisions and take ownership of outcomes in a fast-paced setting.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change and deadlines are tight.
Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings, off-site planning sessions, or cross-team collaboration events.

Familiarity with cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code practices would be a valuable addition to the team.
Experience working in a fast-growing or startup environment where roles and priorities shift frequently.
Knowledge of agile or scrum methodologies and experience facilitating team ceremonies and planning sessions.
Background in data engineering, data platforms, or analytics-related technical domains is considered a plus.
Experience with data pipelines, ETL processes, or real-time data processing systems is considered advantageous.
Skills & tools
Proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to the team's technology stack.
Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
Understanding of database systems, both relational and NoSQL, for managing application data.
Comfort with monitoring tools and observability platforms to track system health and performance.
Ability to use project management and collaboration tools to coordinate team activities and track progress.
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to maintain reliable service availability.
