Principal Software Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will design, implement, and own core bidder components inside the Activate platform, taking full responsibility for the critical services that power real-time auction decisions. Your work will directly shape the low-latency architecture that handles high-volume traffic across global markets, requiring you to write efficient and resilient system code. You will operate in fast development cycles, communicating technical trade-offs with precision while mentoring peers and guiding technical direction through complex engineering challenges. This role provides a competitive compensation package and opportunities for professional growth within a highly collaborative and engineering-driven environment. You will solve intricate problems where software performance directly impacts business outcomes, requiring a balance of pragmatism and architectural rigor.
Key facts
The position is located in Pune, India. It is a full-time engagement. The compensation details are a base salary of 36 LPA, a variable component of 11 LPA, and a sign-on bonus of 10 LPA.
What you'll do
You will architect and implement scalable services within Activate, utilizing Go on Linux to handle millions of requests with high efficiency. You will design event-driven pipelines that enable real-time decision-making, applying deep knowledge of data structures and memory management to optimize resource usage. You will champion production reliability by monitoring services, troubleshooting outages, and optimizing performance for critical user paths to ensure consistent uptime. You will refactor legacy modules into clean, modular, and maintainable code, guided by system programming principles and rigorous code review standards to uphold quality. You will drive the entire software release lifecycle, owning runbooks, automation, and coordination with SRE and platform teams to streamline deployments. You will shape technical direction in design discussions, translating business requirements into robust solutions for bidder features that meet strict performance criteria.
You will partner with data and product teams to align APIs and integrations, ensuring smooth workflows across the ecosystem and reducing friction in cross-functional delivery. You will guard quality through automated testing, debugging complex issues, and validating fixes before production deployment to minimize risk and regressions. You will mentor engineers on best practices, fostering independent work, timely delivery, and strong written and verbal communication to elevate the entire team. You will contribute to an AI-first workflow, using tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude to accelerate development and documentation while maintaining code integrity. You will analyze system metrics to identify bottlenecks and implement optimizations that enhance throughput and reduce latency in high-traffic scenarios. You will ensure all components adhere to security and compliance standards, protecting data and maintaining trust in the advertising ecosystem.
Requirements
You must have 7-12 years of experience building services on Golang under Linux or Unix, demonstrating a proven track record in production environments. You must possess a deep understanding of databases, concurrency, and operating systems, applying these concepts in high-load situations without compromising stability. You must be able to read architecture diagrams and translate them into resilient code that meets strict availability targets and handles failure gracefully. You must have strong proficiency in Git for version control, enabling collaborative development and disciplined code management across multiple contributors. You must be comfortable working within Agile methodologies, adapting to changing priorities while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship. You must have experience with debugging complex issues in distributed systems, using logs and metrics to trace problems and resolve them efficiently. You must communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and shared understanding across teams. You must be committed to writing clean, testable code and participating in code reviews to maintain long-term maintainability and scalability.
