What you'll do
- Conduct comprehensive testing and characterization of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) to evaluate their performance metrics and reliability.
- Develop and implement characterization protocols that align with industry standards and best practices for quantum photonics.
- Collaborate with design engineers to provide feedback on PIC designs based on characterization results, facilitating improvements and optimizations.
- Utilize advanced measurement techniques and instrumentation to gather data on PIC performance, including optical, electrical, and thermal characteristics.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, generating detailed reports that summarize findings and recommend actionable insights.
- Participate in cross-functional team meetings to discuss project progress and share characterization results with stakeholders.
- Maintain and calibrate characterization equipment to ensure the accuracy and reliability of measurements.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues related to PIC performance, working closely with the engineering team to resolve any challenges.
- Stay current with advancements in photonic technologies and characterization methods, integrating new techniques into the existing workflow as appropriate.
- Contribute to the documentation of processes and results, ensuring that all work is well-documented and reproducible for future reference.
Requirements
- A Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in photonic device characterization or a similar role within the semiconductor or optics industry.
- Proficiency in optical measurement techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, and interferometry.
- Strong understanding of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and their applications in quantum computing and telecommunications.
- Experience with data analysis tools and software, such as MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about complex engineering challenges.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to various audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with quantum optics or quantum information science is a plus.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques applied to data analysis in photonics.
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes and cleanroom protocols.
- Previous experience in a startup environment or high-tech industry is advantageous.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in optical measurement equipment and characterization tools.
- Experienced with data analysis software and programming languages, particularly MATLAB and Python.
- Familiarity with simulation software for photonic design, such as COMSOL or Lumerical.

- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
