About the role
Proton.ai is on the lookout for a Senior Fullstack Engineer to contribute to the development and enhancement of their CRM platform tailored for wholesale distributors. This role is versatile, allowing you to engage with various aspects of the technology stack, including frontend and backend development, data management, and system integrations, focusing on areas that maximize user impact. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers, and may also visit customer locations to assist with onboarding and resolve integration issues directly with their IT departments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Take ownership of feature delivery from inception to deployment, including ticket refinement, monitoring, and iterative improvements.
- AI coding tools like Claude Code effectively, managing context and executing multiple agents simultaneously to produce high-quality production code.
- Engage with the complete technology stack, including TypeScript and Vue for the frontend, Python for backend development, as well as SQL for data management and infrastructure.
- Collaborate in a squad-based environment with two-week sprints, participating in standups, refinements, retrospectives, and code reviews.
- Design and implement schemas, queries, and APIs that are reliable and scalable to meet user demands.
- Enhance engineering practices by introducing improved patterns, tools, and AI-driven workflows for the development team.
- Travel to customer sites a few times each year to gain insights into distributor operations in warehouses and on sales floors.
- Actively contribute to discussions around technical decisions, ensuring clear communication with product managers, designers, and customers.
- Foster a culture of ownership within the team, making informed decisions about feature development and prioritization.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to continually improve the product and engineering processes.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a software engineer, showcasing a track record of fullstack development on production systems that serve real users.
- Proficient in analyzing stack traces, understanding query plans, debugging race conditions, and identifying inaccuracies in AI-generated outputs.
- Regular hands-on experience with agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor agent mode, or Codex, with the ability to discuss prompt structuring and context management.
- Comfortable working across various technologies including Vue, Python, SQL, and infrastructure, without needing explicit direction.
- Strong understanding of database design, including schema optimization, indexing strategies, and the challenges associated with distributed systems.
- A startup mentality characterized by pragmatism, a focus on rapid delivery, comfort with uncertainty, and a user-centric approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- A sense of ownership and sound judgment in determining what features to prioritize, what to deprioritize, and when AI outputs may be inadequate.
Nice to have
- Experience in developing integrations with distribution ERPs such as Epicor Eclipse or P21, particularly in managing orders, products, customers, and pricing while addressing complex real-world data challenges.
- Familiarity with building or integrating agentic products, including MCP servers, tool-using agents, agent frameworks, evaluations, or system-level prompt and context engineering.
- Previous experience at an early-stage SaaS startup, contributing to a dynamic and evolving product landscape.
