You will partner with learners and tutors to translate their needs into resilient, human-centric digital experiences that make language learning transformative. You will architect and deliver backend systems that scale gracefully while ensuring observability and reliability for millions of users. You will lead the implementation of data-driven product experiments that validate hypotheses and optimize outcomes for real classrooms. You will mentor engineers across the stack, elevating code quality and fostering a culture of craftsmanship and continuous improvement. You will shape frontend architecture in React while collaborating closely with designers to uphold consistent, accessible user flows. You will own the lifecycle of complex initiatives from discovery through deployment, balancing speed with long-term maintainability. You will challenge existing workflows by proposing AI-augmented alternatives that enhance productivity without compromising security or quality. You will act as a technical leader, aligning stakeholders and driving execution toward ambitious product goals.

What you'll do

• Architect and maintain scalable backend services using Python and Django, ensuring high performance and reliability for global tutor and learner interactions.
• Build and optimize frontend interfaces in React and TypeScript, focusing on responsive design, performance, and seamless user journeys.
• Lead end-to-end ownership of complex features, guiding them from initial discovery and requirements gathering through design, implementation, and post-launch optimization.
• Implement rigorous observability practices by defining and monitoring metrics, logs, and traces to maintain system health and drive data-informed improvements.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and data analysts to run A/B tests and iterate on solutions that maximize learner and tutor value.
• Mentor junior engineers by conducting architectural reviews, delivering feedback, and establishing best practices for frontend and backend development.
• Evaluate trade-offs in ambiguous contexts, making prioritization decisions that align engineering effort with measurable business and customer impact.
• Champion engineering excellence by promoting craftsmanship, curiosity, and knowledge sharing across the entire product and engineering organization.
• Continuously explore and adopt new tools and technologies, including AI-assisted development, to accelerate delivery while maintaining high quality standards.
• Define and enforce standards for system design, code quality, and integration patterns that support Preply's growth at scale.

Requirements

• You hold a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or you have equivalent practical experience.
• You have proven experience as a full-stack engineer, with strong backend skills in Python and Django and frontend experience in React and TypeScript.
• You have a deep understanding of software architecture and system design, with a track record of making technical decisions that improve scalability and reliability.
• You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment where shipping frequently is the norm and change is expected.
• You have hands-on experience implementing data-driven experiments and using analytics to validate hypotheses and guide product decisions.
• You have demonstrated leadership by mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and driving best practices across multiple teams.
• You are fluent in English, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with international teams and stakeholders.
• You are passionate about learning and teaching, aligning your technical work with the mission of making education accessible and impactful for millions.

Nice to have

• Experience working with AI coding tools and integrating them into engineering workflows to boost productivity and code quality.
• Familiarity with observability platforms, monitoring tools, and metrics frameworks to maintain and optimize system health.
