About the role
You will lead the engineering team responsible for the core messaging systems that power Postscript's AI platform. You will own the end-to-end delivery and reliability of the Flow Builder product that orchestrates customer journeys for thousands of brands. You will manage the high-volume SMS campaign send engine that processes millions of messages for leading DTC merchants on AWS infrastructure. You will own the foundational messaging platform and ensure it meets the scalability and security needs of the business. You will spearhead the expansion of messaging into new channels beyond SMS. You will partner closely with AI and platform teams to ensure channels become a powerful surface for intelligent features. You will set the operational standards and on-call practices that define engineering excellence across the organization.

What you'll do
Lead the squad that owns the messaging backbone including Flow Builder, the campaign send engine, the messaging platform, and expansion into new channels.
Drive reliability, throughput, and cost efficiency of a production system that handles Postscript-scale messaging volume across global regions.
Manage the Messaging Platform as an internal product, defining contracts, prioritization, and support SLAs with consumer engineering teams.
Own the team's dedicated on-call rotation, driving incident response, blameless postmortems, and continuous improvement of reliability practices.
Collaborate with platform, AI, and integrations engineers, product managers, business stakeholders, designers, and compliance partners to plan and execute complex initiatives.
Perform performance management for your direct reports through just-in-time feedback, 1:1s, annual reviews, and targeted coaching opportunities.
Provide ongoing technical mentorship and career development for engineers at all levels to foster growth and impact.
Establish and refine development, on-call, and incident-review processes that maximize efficiency and operational rigor in day-to-day work.
Partner with Staff Engineers and technical experts to design technical roadmaps that increase engineering efficiency and platform scalability.
Recruit and hire engineers for your team and other teams, participating in sourcing, screening, and evaluation of candidates.
Lead culture initiatives that help create a high-performing, inclusive, and sustainable engineering organization.
Champion best practices in security, privacy, and compliance for messaging systems that touch regulated industries.
Translate business objectives into technical roadmaps and ensure alignment between long-term strategy and quarterly execution.
Mentor managers of smaller engineering teams to elevate leadership standards across the organization.
Requirements
You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
You have 6+ years of software engineering experience with at least 4 years in a leadership role managing engineers.
You have deep experience building and operating high-volume distributed systems that handle critical production workloads.
You have managed at least one internal platform that serves multiple consumer engineering teams and set product-like contracts.
You are proficient in Python and have significant experience with AWS services including Lambda, SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB or similar.
You have hands-on experience with container orchestration, service mesh, and modern CI/CD pipelines in a cloud-native environment.
You have strong experience with data stores including Postgres, MongoDB, and Kafka in high-throughput scenarios.
You have demonstrated success in performance troubleshooting, capacity planning, and running on-call rotations for critical services.
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and can influence stakeholders without direct authority.
Nice to have
Experience with AI-powered product surfaces, LLM integrations, or agentic systems is a plus.
Background in ecommerce platforms and understanding of merchant workflows in DTC brands.
Contributions to open source projects or public technical talks demonstrating thought leadership.
Practical notes
This is a fully remote position based in the US or Canada.
Employees are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week during core collaboration hours.
Travel is not required for this role.
