Senior Software Engineer
Job description
About the role
Fern, a Postman company, is actively seeking a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to spearhead the development of API infrastructure and next-generation developer tools for a global audience. You will integrate with a high-performing team dedicated to constructing systems that power AI agents and deliver robust API experiences for industry-leading organizations. In this capacity, you will own the design and execution of critical infrastructure components that define the future of API development. Your work will directly influence how developers interact with complex systems at scale, ensuring that reliability and performance remain uncompromised even under extreme load. This role requires a proactive mindset to solve ambiguous, long-term architectural challenges while bridging the gap between intricate backend systems and intuitive user experiences. You will translate high-level product goals into concrete technical specifications in collaboration with cross-functional partners, driving tangible outcomes from concept to production.
What you'll do
- Scale AI infrastructure using Vercel, AWS, and Turbopuffer to maintain reliability and performance under heavy load. You will architect and optimize the systems that power intelligent API interactions, ensuring they perform consistently at scale.
- Engage directly with technical teams at organizations like Nvidia, Square, and Twilio to resolve production issues and refine API functionality. You will act as a key technical partner, diagnosing and solving complex issues that impact real-world API usage.
- Coordinate with frontend engineers and product designers to create polished user interfaces. You will work hand-in-hand with design and frontend teams to ensure the developer experience is seamless and intuitive.
- Utilize TypeScript and Next.js to ship high-quality product improvements. You will leverage modern frameworks and languages to build responsive and efficient user-facing features.
- Architect resilient backend services that handle millions of requests with minimal latency. You will design the core infrastructure that ensures speed and stability for our platform.
- Implement automated testing strategies to ensure the stability of new features before they reach production. You will establish rigorous quality gates to maintain a high standard of software reliability.
- Analyze system metrics to identify bottlenecks and drive optimizations for core infrastructure. You will use data to guide performance improvements and capacity planning.
- Partner with security specialists to enforce best practices and safeguard sensitive data. You will contribute to a security-first mindset across the engineering organization.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews and technical guidance. You will help elevate the entire team through knowledge sharing and constructive feedback.
- Explore emerging technologies to evaluate their potential integration into existing workflows. You will stay ahead of the curve by assessing new tools that can improve our development processes.
- Streamline deployment processes to reduce downtime and improve release velocity. You will optimize the CI/CD pipeline to enable faster and more reliable software delivery.
- Document system architecture to ensure clarity for current and future team members. You will create the technical artifacts necessary for long-term maintainability.
- Collaborate with customer success teams to gather feedback and inform product decisions. You will connect with customers to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements.
- Maintain a deep understanding of API standards to ensure compliance and interoperability. You will ensure our infrastructure adheres to industry best practices and protocols.
