Head of AI Platform Engineering

About the role

Postman is looking for a senior leader to guide AI platform engineering efforts across its API platform, which serves over 45 million developers and 500,000 organizations including 98% of the Fortune 500. You will own the AI roadmap, push forward agentic capabilities, and coordinate with internal teams and external partners to grow AI-driven features throughout the API lifecycle. In this capacity, you will act as the central technical authority responsible for shaping how AI augments every interaction with the Postman API platform. You will translate ambitious product visions into robust, scalable engineering outcomes that align with the needs of both developers and enterprise customers. Your work will directly influence how the platform supports intelligent workflows, automated testing, and collaborative API design. You will ensure that AI initiatives are grounded in reliability, performance, and long-term platform strategy. This role requires a balance of deep technical judgment and executive-level influence across the organization.

What you'll do

• Define and execute the AI platform strategy with emphasis on API ecosystem growth and product innovation, ensuring alignment with Postman's long-term vision.
• Own the AI roadmap, prioritizing API integration, platform expansion, and intelligent agent functionality to maximize developer value.
• Spot market opportunities for AI-enhanced API collaboration and agent-based features that can differentiate the platform in a competitive landscape.
• Partner with product, engineering, business units, and external collaborators to ship AI initiatives that are timely, coherent, and impactful.
• Manage implementation work with core AI providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and AWS, ensuring alignment with API lifecycle goals and performance standards.
• Coach internal teams and external partners on applying AI within API contexts, fostering a shared understanding of capabilities and constraints.
• Assess new AI technologies and tools to strengthen platform capabilities over time, maintaining a forward-looking perspective on innovation.
• Evaluate vendor relationships, technical trade-offs, and integration patterns to support scalable and secure AI workflows.
• Drive cross-functional alignment on AI objectives, removing blockers and establishing clear ownership for critical initiatives.
• Establish measurable outcomes for AI platform efforts, enabling data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.
• Maintain awareness of emerging AI standards, best practices, and regulatory considerations relevant to API-driven services.
• Serve as a bridge between technical teams and strategic stakeholders, ensuring that AI investments deliver tangible business results.

Requirements

• Track record leading AI or platform engineering teams, ideally at API-focused or developer platform companies with a strong product mindset.
• Strong technical foundation in AI, machine learning, and API platforms, with direct experience building or integrating AI-driven APIs or agents in production environments.
• Solid grasp of API ecosystems, platform strategy, and partner relationships, including how these elements interact with broader technology organizations.
• Ability to lead cross-functional groups spanning product, engineering, partnerships, and marketing on complex projects that require coordination and alignment.
• Clear communication skills, comfortable presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences while articulating trade-offs and strategic rationale.
• Commitment to AI safety, ethical AI practices, and building scalable, user-centered platforms that respect privacy, security, and operational resilience.
• Demonstrated experience navigating fast-paced, ambiguous environments while maintaining clarity of direction for teams.
• Willingness to engage with customers, partners, and executive stakeholders to represent technical perspectives and influence decision-making.

Nice to have

• Experience with API developer tools, SaaS ecosystems, or AI agent platforms that can accelerate integration and adoption.
• Background in product strategy or technical partner management tied to AI and cloud platforms, with a track record of driving adoption.
• Established connections in AI and API partner communities that can provide insights, references, or collaborative opportunities.

Practical notes

• Base salary range: $310,000 to $400,000, plus equity
