About the role
This role is central to advancing PointClickCare's data governance initiatives. You will take ownership of significant data governance projects, improve data quality, and guide teams in managing metadata and data catalogs. You will serve as a key advisor to data stakeholders across various business areas.

What you'll do
- Lead the process of documenting and enhancing key data areas within the company's data catalog, ensuring comprehensive business descriptions, critical data element identification, sensitivity classifications, lineage tracking, and ownership assignments.
- Develop, implement, and sustain systems for monitoring data quality and observing patterns in important datasets, spearheading root cause analysis and resolution efforts with data stewards, owners, and engineering teams.
- Manage and update the business glossary, data dictionary, and critical data elements, fostering agreement between business leaders and technical teams on definitive terms and measurement standards.
- Direct cross-functional efforts to put Data Trust processes into practice, including onboarding stewards, conducting certification reviews, enforcing governance policies, and managing data access.
- Conduct in-depth data profiling, analysis, and lineage tracing across various systems to support readiness for certification, meet compliance needs, and enable AI projects.
- Create and maintain metrics, scorecards, and reports that track catalog coverage, data quality status, certified assets, and adoption of stewardship practices.
- Act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to Data Owners, Data Stewards, technical teams, and business leaders regarding data governance expectations, issue prioritization, and data quality improvement strategies.
- Design and document enhancements to data governance processes, metadata standards, and data quality frameworks, presenting proposals for improvement.
- Guide and assist junior Data Governance Analysts, offering instruction on tools, governance techniques, and best practices for metadata management and quality assurance.
- Support the governance of data assets intended for AI use by ensuring certified datasets meet the quality, lineage, sensitivity, and documentation standards required for analytics and AI systems.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Business, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 3 - 5 years of experience in data governance, data quality, metadata management, or a similar analytical area.
- Proven experience leading data governance or data quality projects independently within a large, cross-functional organization.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with advanced data profiling, analysis, and lineage documentation for enterprise data assets.
- Practical experience with enterprise data catalog platforms, metadata management tools, or data quality monitoring platforms.
- Solid understanding of data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or DCAM, with experience applying them to business and technical teams.
- Excellent skills in managing stakeholders, communicating effectively, and influencing others; ability to present governance findings and recommendations to both business and technical audiences.
- Experience designing and maintaining governance metrics, data quality scorecards, or asset certification frameworks.
Nice to have
- Experience in the healthcare or health technology sector, or in a heavily regulated industry with data privacy requirements like HIPAA or PIPEDA.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Unity Catalog, Azure, AWS) and data pipeline or transformation tools (e.g., dbt).
- Experience supporting AI or machine learning projects from a governance or data enablement perspective, including understanding AI data quality, lineage, and responsible AI requirements.
- Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) principles and data standardization practices.
- Relevant certifications in data management, governance, or cloud platforms (e.g., CDMP, DCAM, or platform-specific credentials).
