What you'll do
- Conduct field investigations to collect soil, rock, and groundwater samples, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Analyze geotechnical data using advanced software and methodologies to assess soil properties and behavior under various loading conditions.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports that summarize findings, provide interpretations, and recommend design parameters for foundations, retaining structures, and earthworks.
- Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project designs.
- Perform slope stability analyses, settlement evaluations, and seismic assessments to ensure the integrity of structures in diverse geological conditions.
- Develop and implement geotechnical instrumentation plans to monitor site conditions during construction and provide real-time data to project teams.
- Participate in site visits and construction oversight to ensure adherence to geotechnical design specifications and quality control measures.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in geotechnical engineering to enhance the quality of our services.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance and support to foster their professional growth within the field.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and stakeholders, effectively communicating complex geotechnical concepts in an understandable manner.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and bids for new projects, showcasing your expertise and the value of our geotechnical services.
- Engage in continuous professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions relevant to geotechnical engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on site investigations and foundation design.
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geotechnical design principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to geotechnical engineering and environmental protection.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
- Experience with geotechnical field testing methods, including SPT, CPT, and laboratory testing.
- Knowledge of construction practices and materials relevant to geotechnical engineering.
- Previous experience working in remote or challenging environments, particularly in Alaska or similar regions.
