The Senior Cost Accountant is entrusted with the stewardship of inventory accounting and the execution of month-end close activities. This function operates within an environment characterized by rapid expansion. Success in this role ensures the accuracy and integrity of cost accounting data. The position provides direct support to operational scalability and necessitates close collaboration with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations, and Procurement departments.

This role is uniquely appropriate for professionals who have previously supported organizations navigating the transition from research and development or pre-commercialization phases into established production and scaled operations. The ideal candidate demonstrates proficiency in ERP system management, possesses detailed knowledge of inventory subledgers and manufacturing workflows, and exhibits the capability to formulate accounting procedures that are robust and scalable within a dynamic operational landscape. The reporting line for this position is the Assistant Controller.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent owns the complete cost accounting workflow, managing processes from transaction intake through final partner delivery. This involves the precise tracking of inventory values while production activities progress toward full-scale manufacturing. The role requires the translation of complex financial transactions into clear, accurate records that inspire confidence in leadership decision-making.

Key duties include the design of intake routines to ensure transactions are captured prior to the closure of monthly books. The role involves the construction of detailed inventory layers, coupled with vigilant monitoring of unit costs across multiple product lines. Reviewing valuation methods forms a critical function to guarantee strict adherence to accounting standards and established internal controls.

The execution of month-end close activities is conducted with a focus on accuracy, thereby enabling timely reporting cycles. Collaboration with the Supply Chain team is necessary to verify material movements and to reconcile physical inventory counts. The guidance of manufacturing teams regarding cost capture methods ensures that resource usage is accurately reflected in financial records. Coordination with Procurement is essential to validate purchase flows and to manage associated cost updates effectively. The maintenance of ERP configurations is a core duty, aimed at facilitating scalable tracking as production volume increases.

Requirements

The candidate must demonstrate expertise in handling inventory subledgers and manufacturing process data with a high degree of precision. A minimum of three years of cost accounting experience within production-driven environments is mandatory. The individual must possess the ability to construct scalable procedures within contexts defined by dynamic operations.

Proficiency in the use of ERP systems that govern detailed costing and inventory flows is a prerequisite for success in this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in operational environments actively transitioning from research phases toward commercial production is considered a significant advantage.

Compensation and Location

This is a full-time position based in Palo Alto, California. The compensation package for this role ranges from $130,000 to $170,000 annually.
