As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on the AI & ML (Insights) team, you will be instrumental in developing AI-driven features that extract valuable insights from PitchBook's extensive structured and unstructured data, including reports and news articles. This position demands a strong technical foundation in data analytics and machine learning, along with a proactive approach to designing, building, and refining ML solutions that enhance user experiences on the PitchBook Platform.

What you'll do

• Develop and implement AI and ML functionalities that enhance insight generation on the PitchBook Platform, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
• Utilize your expertise to design, create, and deploy AI/ML models and services, focusing on areas such as natural language processing, summarization, semantic search, and predictive analytics.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence by mentoring colleagues, sharing insights, and engaging in code and design evaluations.
• Create and optimize models using classifiers, transformers, and large language models to derive meaningful insights from various data types.
• Collaborate with engineering, product management, and data teams to ensure high-quality data informs model development and supports product strategies.
• Investigate and apply new technologies and methodologies in the fields of generative AI and NLP, translating research into actionable solutions.
• Uphold best practices in model transparency, monitoring, and compliance, ensuring high standards of security and data integrity.
• Participate in the recruitment process by evaluating candidates and assisting with onboarding and documentation efforts.
• Apply Agile and Lean methodologies to streamline model development and deployment processes.
• Represent the company's vision and values through your actions and encourage desired behaviors among team members.
• Engage in various company initiatives and projects as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in software or machine learning engineering, particularly in AI/ML applications for generating insights, summarization, semantic search, and prediction.
• Proven expertise in natural language processing and machine learning, with hands-on experience using classifiers, transformer models, large language models, and popular ML libraries such as scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
• Experience in delivering production-ready generative AI or LLM-based systems that demonstrate measurable business impact.
• Familiarity with the LangChain ecosystem, including tools like LangSmith and LangGraph, and experience deploying them in production settings is highly desirable.
• Strong skills in building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and distributed systems, utilizing technologies such as Apache Kafka, Airflow, and cloud platforms like Snowflake.
• Proficient in Python and SQL, with additional knowledge of languages like Java or Scala considered beneficial.
• Practical experience with cloud-native development, containerization, and orchestration using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to tackle complex technical challenges, contribute to architectural decisions, and deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with experience collaborating across functions with product managers, engineers, and data scientists in global teams.
• Background in fast-paced, data-driven environments; previous experience in fintech or financial data platforms is a strong plus.

• Familiarity with Agile and Lean methodologies.
• Previous experience in mentoring or leading teams in technical settings.
