About the role

PitchBook is actively seeking a distinguished senior journalist to join its growing news team and help define the coverage of the global venture capital ecosystem. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, investigating, and narrating the most consequential stories shaping the industry's present and future. The primary focus of this role will be the conception, execution, and delivery of high-impact reporting for PitchBook's upcoming venture capital newsletter, serving as a critical voice in its editorial leadership. You will leverage deep industry expertise and analytical rigor to transform complex market movements into clear, compelling narratives for a sophisticated audience. Collaboration will be central to your function, as you will work hand-in-hand with research and data teams to integrate proprietary metrics into your storytelling. What you'll do

Investigate and produce authoritative reporting on venture capital fundraising, exit activity, and emerging startup business models by synthesizing proprietary datasets with on-the-ground reporting.

Provide timely analysis and breaking news coverage regarding significant transactions, market corrections, and macroeconomic shifts impacting the venture ecosystem and LP strategies.

Shape the editorial direction and voice of PitchBook's flagship VC newsletter, ensuring consistent quality, depth, and relevance of content delivered to subscribers.

Collaborate with data analysts and visualization specialists to design custom charts and graphics that clarify intricate trends and enhance the narrative clarity of your stories.

Cultivate and manage a robust network of confidential sources and industry stakeholders to ensure consistent access to critical information and diverse perspectives.

Travel to key industry conferences and events throughout the year to conduct interviews, gather intelligence, and maintain visibility within the global venture community.

Champion PitchBook's journalistic standards and institutional values through meticulous fact-checking, transparent sourcing, and professional interactions with peers and subjects.

Take ownership of cross-functional initiatives, including content syndication, partnership efforts, and special projects that expand the reach and impact of the news organization.

Analyze market data to uncover hidden patterns and nascent trends, translating quantitative insights into qualitative narratives that inform strategic decisions.

Develop a keen sense for newsworthy angles, proactively pitching story ideas that address gaps in the current coverage and anticipate the interests of the newsletter audience.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, demonstrating a foundational level of academic achievement.
• Bring a minimum of five years of professional journalism experience, with a focus on producing high-stakes, deadline-driven content.
• Possess current authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship at this time or in the future.
• Demonstrate a deep understanding of the venture capital landscape, including the nuances of term sheets, valuation methodologies, and due diligence processes.
• Maintain a proven history of breaking significant news within the technology or finance sectors, establishing credibility through bylines and impact.
• Have a documented network of reliable sources across the venture community, including partners at leading firms, operators, and service providers.
• Exhibit exceptional written communication skills, producing clear, concise and grammatically precise copy that requires minimal editorial intervention.
• Show prior experience in analyzing quantitative data to derive actionable insights and support narrative conclusions.
• Display a high level of comfort discussing and interpreting financial statements, cap tables, and investment performance metrics.
• Possess the self-motivation to independently generate story pitches, manage complex editorial calendars, and meet multiple competing deadlines.
• Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel, with the ability to quickly master new proprietary analytics platforms.
• Commit to adhering to strict journalistic ethics, including conflict-of-interest policies and the rigorous verification of facts.
• Thrive in a collaborative setting, offering constructive feedback to peers while remaining open to direction from senior editors.
• Willingness to relocate to or maintain primary work presence in the New York City metropolitan area to ensure optimal collaboration with the team.
