What you'll do
- Develop and optimize CNC lathe programs based on engineering specifications and blueprints to ensure efficient production processes.
- Set up CNC lathe machines, including tooling, fixtures, and workpieces, to prepare for production runs.
- Monitor machine operations during production runs to ensure adherence to quality standards and make adjustments as necessary.
- Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting of CNC lathes to minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
- Perform quality inspections on finished products using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Document production processes, including setup sheets and inspection reports, to maintain accurate records for quality assurance.
- Train and mentor junior operators on CNC programming, machine setup, and quality control procedures to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in CNC technology to enhance skills and contribute to the team's growth.
- Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist in the development of new tooling and fixtures to improve production efficiency and product quality.
- Engage in cross-training opportunities to broaden skill sets and support team versatility in various machining operations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in CNC programming and operation, specifically with CNC lathes.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
- Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming languages.
- Experience with CNC control systems, such as Fanuc, Haas, or similar platforms.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges, for quality control.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure high-quality output.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and other departments.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in machining or a related field is preferred.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for programming and simulation purposes.
- Experience in a lean manufacturing environment and knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a machining setting.
- Knowledge of materials and their properties to select appropriate tooling and machining parameters.
- Certification from a recognized CNC programming or machining program.
