Member of Technical Staff
Job description
About the role
Become a vital member of the AI Products team at Perplexity, where you will work to elevate the mobile experience for our users. This position emphasizes the entire user journey, from the first interaction to ongoing engagement and upgrades, particularly on the iOS platform. You will take full ownership of projects aimed at driving user growth and enhancing retention.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and implement features that are focused on user growth throughout the iOS mobile funnel, encompassing aspects like installation, activation, onboarding, user lifecycle management, conversion, retention, and paid upgrades.
- Spearhead experiments from initial concept through to deployment, managing multiple tests simultaneously while developing flag-driven and server-driven methodologies that allow for testing independent of app store updates.
- Take charge of in-app purchase systems and paywall mechanisms, which include managing billing integrations, subscription processes, credit purchase flows, entitlement accuracy, and conducting pricing experiments.
- Develop engaging push notifications and lifecycle messaging that users actively opt into, paying close attention to permission prompts, targeting strategies, timing, deep linking, and evaluating their impact on user retention.
- Collaborate with web and design engineers to ensure a consistent user experience across platforms, including web, iOS, and Android, particularly in areas like onboarding, upselling, and in-task nudges.
- Work alongside the broader Growth team to enhance app store performance and improve attribution metrics.
- Drive improvements in key performance indicators such as install-to-activation rates, retention metrics (D1/D7/D30), notification engagement, paid conversion rates, and user habit formation, leveraging reliable data and experimental results.
- Partner closely with teams in Product, Design, Data Science, Monetization, Marketing, and the core Mobile team to translate user behavior insights into impactful product features.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in mobile engineering, specifically in delivering consumer applications at scale on iOS.
- Proficient in native iOS development languages such as Swift, SwiftUI, and Objective-C, with a willingness to engage with other areas of the technology stack.
- Experience overseeing the complete release cycle, which includes build and release tools, phased rollouts, navigating store review processes, crash monitoring, and implementing safe rollbacks.
- Demonstrated ability to execute effectively, managing multiple experiments and product enhancements simultaneously while achieving measurable outcomes.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation platforms like Eppo, Statsig, Optimizely, or similar internal tools, particularly in the context of versioned applications.
- Comfortable making data-driven decisions, with the capability to extract, segment, and analyze funnel data.
- Strong product judgment, with the ability to translate user behavior and growth opportunities into straightforward, effective technical solutions.
- Self-driven with a robust sense of ownership, capable of proposing experiments, delivering features efficiently, and proactively driving improvements.
- A genuine interest in AI products, coupled with a commitment to rapid learning and adaptation.
Nice to have
- Experience working within a growth or experimentation-focused team.
- Extensive knowledge of in-app payment systems.
- Familiarity with mobile attribution and measurement platforms such as AppsFlyer, Adjust, or Branch, as well as experience in paid mobile acquisition.
- Background in App Store Optimization (ASO), including conducting store listing experiments and managing localized metadata.
- Comfort in working with backend or web technologies to create comprehensive end-to-end solutions.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced startup environment or on an engineering team with significant ownership responsibilities.
