In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for managing the daily maintenance operations and leading the facilities team to ensure the functionality and safety of our site. Your role will include coordinating with external vendors, overseeing work orders, and performing hands-on repairs to support our medical technology manufacturing environment. What you'll do

• Lead and supervise the facilities team and external contractors to maintain high-quality standards in all maintenance activities.
• Implement and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for all building systems and equipment to minimize downtime.
• Manage the daily work order system effectively, assigning tasks to technicians and adjusting priorities as necessary to meet operational needs.
• Perform a variety of repairs including plumbing, electrical work, flooring, ceilings, doors, and walls to ensure a safe and functional environment.
• Organize and coordinate office relocations and furniture reconfigurations to optimize workspace efficiency.
• Enforce safety protocols rigorously, including lockout/tagout procedures, safe handling of hazardous materials, and ladder safety practices.
• Ensure that all maintenance work adheres to the Quality Management System and complies with relevant industry regulations and standards.
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify areas needing attention and proactively address potential issues.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and ensure that all documentation is up to date and accessible.
• Collaborate with other departments to support their facilities-related needs and ensure seamless operations.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior facilities staff to enhance their skills and knowledge in maintenance practices.
• Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in facilities management to continuously improve operations.

Requirements

• A high school diploma is required; additional certifications in facilities management or related fields are a plus.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in facilities maintenance, with expertise in HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and data systems.
• Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with standard powered and non-powered tools is essential.
• Ability to work safely on ladders and navigate between different buildings and floors.
• Familiarity with state industry safety regulations and orders is necessary.
• Strong communication skills in English, particularly in conveying job assignments and safety instructions effectively.

Nice to have

• Previous experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industries will be advantageous.
• Familiarity with building automation systems or energy management systems is a plus.
• Certification in safety management or facilities management would be beneficial.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance techniques.
• Experienced in using the Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting.
• Knowledgeable in work order management systems for tracking maintenance tasks.
• Strong understanding of safety compliance practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and hazardous materials handling.

Practical notes

• This position is based on-site in Alameda, CA, and requires a hands-on approach to facilities management.
• The role may involve occasional business travel, estimated at up to 10%.
• Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, as the position may require working on weekends, holidays, or during varied hours.
