Finance Data Lead
Job description
About the role
At Parafin, we build technology that expands financial access for small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, yet traditional banks often fall short in serving their needs. Through integrations with platforms such as DoorDash, Amazon, Worldpay, and Mindbody, we provide fast and flexible funding, spend management, and savings tools to their small business users. Parafin takes on the complexity of capital markets, underwriting, servicing, compliance, and customer service so our partners can focus on their core products. We are a Series C company backed by venture capital firms including GIC, Notable Capital, Redpoint Ventures, Ribbit Capital, and Thrive Capital, with more than $194M in equity and $340M in debt facilities. Our team is composed of innovators from Stripe, Square, Plaid, Coinbase, Robinhood, CERN, and other mission-driven organizations, united by a passion for enabling small business success. This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and operates as full-time employment.
What you'll do
You will own the financial data lifecycle from raw inputs to board-ready outputs, designing and managing data pipelines that transform transactional complexity into clear financial narratives. You will serve as the primary analyst for portfolio performance, revenue integrity, and operational risk, while leveraging modern tools to drive efficiency and insight. Key responsibilities include tracing raw financial data through transformation to final Excel and BI deliverables; constructing financial models and dashboards that track origination volumes, revenue run rates, and portfolio performance; driving rapid, accurate responses to ad hoc data requests from Finance, Product, and GTM with clear documentation; harnessing AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot to automate repetitive tasks and accelerate insight generation; collaborating with Engineering and Data teams to ensure financial data is correctly structured, accessible, and governed; implementing data integrity standards with reconciliation logic and audit trails across all financial outputs; curating materials for external reporting to investors, lenders, and board-level stakeholders with clarity and rigor; defining and evolving processes in a fast-moving environment, balancing speed with analytical rigor; serving as the accountable owner for data quality, explaining variances and maintaining trust in financial outputs; and supporting scenario analysis and forecasting to guide strategic decisions around lending capacity and portfolio health.
Requirements
Candidates must bring 4-7 years of experience in data-heavy roles such as data analyst, analytics engineer, or financial analyst with strong technical depth. You must demonstrate expert-level proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, including complex models, dynamic arrays, and pivot tables. You should be able to write and optimize SQL queries against large datasets independently, ensuring performance and correctness. You are expected to apply modern AI tools with curiosity and discipline, integrating them into financial workflows responsibly. Baseline fluency in corporate finance concepts such as EBITDA, working capital, and structured finance is required. A high degree of trust and discretion is essential, as you will handle sensitive financial data responsibly at all times. Strong verbal communication skills are necessary to translate complex datasets into clear, concise narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences. You must adhere to strict deadlines and compliance expectations in a regulated financial environment.
Nice to have
Experience in fintech, lending, or structured finance is valuable, including familiarity with loan tapes, origination data, or SPV structures. Proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation and automation is a plus. Experience with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, Mode, or similar platforms is beneficial. Familiarity with DBT, Airflow, or similar data pipeline tooling to ensure robust and scalable workflows is also welcome.
Why this role
This position offers high-impact, high-visibility work, with outputs presented in executive and investor materials. You will have a seat at the table for data infrastructure decisions within the Finance team and the opportunity to define processes and tooling in a fast-moving environment. The role operates within a collaborative team that values rigor, speed, and intellectual curiosity.
