About the role
Pano AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build scalable, secure production systems that help fire professionals detect and respond to wildfires. You will own end-to-end development projects, working across the full stack to create tools that protect communities and infrastructure. In this capacity, you will architect resilient systems that ingest and process high volumes of sensor and satellite data in real time. You will translate complex operational requirements into robust software solutions while maintaining strict standards for reliability and performance. The role demands close collaboration with product, science, and operations teams to ensure technology aligns with mission-critical workflows. You will mentor junior engineers and influence technical direction through thoughtful design and execution.

What you'll do
- Build and scale full-stack solutions that support business objectives and user needs in wildfire detection and response.
- Design and deploy new features, internal tools, and development workflows that improve team velocity and system reliability.
- Manage projects from initial concept through to production deployment, coordinating requirements and stakeholder expectations.
- Maintain high standards for application security, code quality, and system uptime across distributed environments.
- Utilize agile methodologies and participate in continuous learning to adapt to evolving product and technical challenges.
- Join an on-call rotation to monitor, triage, and resolve production incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to critical services.
- Develop technical documentation, performance metrics, and system dashboards that provide clear insight into system health.
- Implement data ingestion pipelines that handle diverse sources such as cameras, satellites, and IoT sensors with low latency.
- Optimize database queries and application logic to support fast response times for mission-critical user workflows.
- Collaborate with front-end and back-end teams to define interfaces and integration contracts that enable seamless user experiences.
- Conduct code reviews and pair programming sessions to uphold engineering standards and share knowledge across the team.
- Explore and prototype new technologies that could enhance detection accuracy, operational efficiency, or user engagement.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production systems.
- 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced SaaS environment where requirements evolve quickly and delivery is critical.
- Proficiency in server-side Java development using modern frameworks like Spring to create scalable and maintainable services.
- Experience with SQL, relational databases like PostgreSQL, and ORMs to model complex data and ensure consistency.
- Expertise in front-end development including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React to build responsive and interactive interfaces.
- Ability to architect, visualize, and implement complex technical systems that balance performance, cost, and usability.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving issues within intricate software environments and distributed services.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with engineers, product managers, and field operators.
- Comfort working with ambiguous requirements and turning high-level objectives into concrete technical tasks.
